Trigger points (small knots), scar tissue and hard tendons left this way for a long time will not heal from pills of any type, since the tissues are now in a physically altered state. Manually therapy (sustained pressure) is the general method to separate and re-align stuck tissue fibers. Its very time consuming and costly if you rely on others for this service. I have wrote many posts in the past on doing this your self. This works for most people, but trouble areas do not always heal 100%.
Enter the new therapy I have just begun to use for stubborn trigger knots, hard tendons ect - its called DRY NEEDLING done by PT's and covered as part of the therapy visit.
Its sticking a needle 3/8 to 3/4 inch into the muscle knot for only a couple seconds, the muscleis goes into spasm and then releases. The next day you feel a little better, and slowly heal the following weeks. It seems to work for tendons also. Time will tell if it lasts. Its not night and day, but it does do something positive.
When you google this, acupuncturist WILL put this down. Because it invades in "their" territory, and they say PT's dont get enough training to do this safe since the needle goes in deeper than acupuncture. Well, you dont stick needles near the lungs , duh!!
Conventional medicine discovered this simple therapy as a combination of manual trigger point release and acupuncture (but way quicker, deeper and one needle at a time). And since its practiced by conventional medicine as a PT therapy, most ins covers it which further aggravates acupuncturists.
Its painful for a couple seconds, feels weird, spasms, needle drawn out, then loosens up for the following days to weeks as it heals.
Only problem is I could have this done almost all over. But, there are certain places you cant have needles stuck in you, so you cant do this all over.
The better you get, the more better you want to get. Feeling better is addictive after 25-30 years of pain. My hip and shoulder are one step "free-er", my foot has not locked up after this one month ago.
I imagine it could take another year for these issues to heal after the tension is released- remember I've been this way in some areas 25-30 years, so my body technically adapted irregularly to it. Like a tree growing through a fence, remove the fence, branch is still crooked, but free to grow straighter in the future.
