Had another awesome appt w/ my awesome neurologist. I wish so much those of you who have had bad experiences with neurologists could see him (contact me if you'd like his info - office is in San Diego). He admittedly can't do a whole lot for us but he is smart, attuned to the "lyme" experience, helpful and shares information. I met with one of this interns today, who is also a gem.
Anyway, my vertigo is thankfully infrequent and the seizures have stopped and we've ruled out all the typical causes with extensive testing. I still wonder if the vertigo might be caused by fungus or biofilm in the middle ear.
- I have been experimenting with antifungals and other remedies so a very few of my typical yeast/fungal overgrowth symptoms have popped up on occasion since I started experimenting.
- But now that I'm on a 2nd abx I went back on antifungals so only time will tell if the vertigo reappears at this point.
- If not, then my suspicions might be right. If the vertigo does return, then it's something unrelated.
Anyway, we also talked about
tinnitus, which is really bad for me - CONSTANT loud ringing in both ears - about
5-6 different pitches at different volumes that sound like they are coming from different directions. I keep things loud during the day but at night it is horrible... stressful... maddening.
We talked about
the cause being inflammation - so those who suggested red root tinctures to help with node inflammation are definitely on to something (although red root has done nothing for me). Also, keeping blood circulating is helpful, which niacin does (in fact, it used to be something prescribed for cholesterol but got a bad rap because it causes flushing). Other than that, it's still a 'mystery' to neurologists.
One thing the intern/tech suggested to me was a noise-cancelling type app that can be downloaded to an Apple product called "Tinnitus Pro Music Therapy"
promedicalaudio.com so might be worth a try.
