How many bother to test for mycoplasma?

Thanks multi....Going to doctors office on Monday to pick up a few items and will also ask for the extra tests. They can actually do the blood draw there. And the way I figure it, why not test if it's covered through insurance? I've paid enough for tests that aren't covered. It's sickening but I added it up, and I've paid $15,000 + in tests that aren't covered.

@mystery1, not NC but adjacent state - also it's DS who is being treated. I believe it's with minocycline but I'm not sure as he's on lots of stuff, omnicef, malarone/art (babs), mino etc. He was herxing a lot so they cut back from him taking mino daily which if I recall correctly was for the myco. They did say it can take many months (5+) to see progress on myco. His numbers are dropping quite slowly but they are trending downward.

There are many species and some onle respond to floroquinlones or clindamycin. ..i feel this and bart arecwhats hurting me the most

@Krimpet - First test was Jan, follow up in May and June. In either April or May dropped mino from daily because of too much herxing so now progress seems slower but it is ramped up over summer while out of school.

I have cns lyme since 2001. Last year I became very ill only to discover it was due to a mycroplasm infection.

I was treated with 1500 mg of tetrcycline and 500 mg of zithromax for 3 months. I feel much better. I guess I had been carrying around this co infection for years. My fatigue is less. Pain seems to be better as well.

I now take Raintree A_F along with myco it seems to help. If i back off of treating my symptoms return.

This is the first treatment I have ever been on I did not herx but felt much better.

Krimpet after I treated lyme, bart and babs, I had no symptoms but was left with a weird cough in the mornings. I thought it could be mycoplasma so I started cordyceps and reishi.

Dr. Rawls says: The biggest problem with diagnosing mycoplasma is that we still don’t have a good handle on it. PCR is the best way to test for mycoplasma, but testing is species specific and focused on diagnosing acute respiratory or genital mycoplasma infections.

Another problem with diagnosing mycoplasma is that medical science does not recognize chronic mycoplasma infections as being significant. Even though mycoplasma is commonly found in association with chronic degenerative diseases, it is also found in ⅓ – ⅔ of any population without causing symptoms. In other words, it is assumed that mycoplasma just happens to be there, but isn’t really a factor in disease.

My lung/cough went away and I have no idea if it was mycoplasma because I did not do any test. I just treated. Those mushrooms would not hurt me in anyway, so why not?

Noticed this thread is active again and wanted to give an update on what a pain mycoplasma is to get rid of! DS's numbers had finally fallen and he got reinfected in the fall sometime - his breathing had actually finally been improving and he had been able to back off his inhaler use etc and then shortly before his Dec LLMD appointment it worsened again so they tested his myco and the active infection number had gone back up so they said he was probably reinfected.

Then when DD got pneumonia last month she was treated for myco and strep pn because they thought she could have been infected by DS (I doubt it but you never know). I asked the pediatrician and she said they had diagnosed a lot of myco this winter.

FWIW DS only had a cough and it wasn't awful during the first stages of treatment last winter. It was never a big sign of his myco. LLMD thinks his myco is a big part of his problem as it is so tough to knock down.

I think everyone should be tested for it as it's a cause of a lot of trouble if you have it.

Yancy - how are you treating myco? My 13 yo sin has had a. Ery annoying cough that seems to flare for no apparent reason (dry, non- productive). I may try the natural stuff peteza mentioned.

I haven't been tested by my rife machine had a protocol that hit the mycoplasma and it had a huge affect on me. I had to turn down the voltage and really detox. I have to go back to it again after I'm through the rest of the treatments and I'm not looking forward to it.

My previous LLMD didn't test for any co-infections and only seemed to care about Babesia and Bartonella. I guess that's why I have an appointment with a new LLNP. She tests for mold/mycotoxins which I think is really affecting me. We'll see how it goes.

I tested positive for mycoplasma antibodies but only slightly elevated. My doc didn't seem to think they were significant. Then again my Lyme antibodies were only slightly elevated as were my babesia and ehrlichia titers though the last two were IFA not ELISA.

k07, he is using minocycline - they wanted to hit the myco hard a year ago when he started treatment but he was herxing too hard on it - they had him using it daily for myco-otherwise he pulses. We haven't gone back to daily mino but now he pulses it an extra week monthly (so 3 weeks on mino, 2 on the other stuff and 1 off). Hopefully in two weeks he'll be tested again and they will have come down and he can move to 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off. I have CSA but haven't been good at remembering to use it since he has lots of other supplements/herbs.

Good luck! That dry annoying cough was DS's only outward symptom so that could be it for your DK too.

I got mine from Hawaii Pharm or Amazon carries Hawaii Pharm also. I believe the Reishi is called Tonic of Emperor, unless they finally changed it to Reishi.
