Good alternative for doxy treating bart in summer?

Hi all I'm currently taking Planequil/Levaquin to treat a stubborn bart like organism. LLMD would like to add Doxy but its the summer and boy do i burn quickly from a very small exposure so would like to add something else. I looked up Biaxin and macrolides are not good with Levaquin due to the QT interval risk, same problem with sulfa drugs so rules Bactrim out. I have an allergy to Cefdinir so cephalosporins are probably out as well. Any other good alternatives that could work for me in the next few months? Thanks.

You could switch to Rifampin + Zithromax/Biaxin for bart.
On paper, Rifampin + Biaxin don't mix well, but I've heard from a few LLMD's, including my own, that clinically they seem to do well together.

If you don't want to do that and want to stick with Levaquin, you could add minocycline instead of doxy.

Bactrim also has anti-bart properties, but I can't remember how it does with the sun. I took it in the dead of winter. Sorry!

Very interesting. Guess you should switch back to the Rifampin then?
I'm on Levaquin now and haven't noticed much change.

nberg - I am very fair - have always burned easy, too..so was kind of expecting Mino to be a problem too...and I was fine with it.
I do make sure I wear sunscreen though.

With Doxy, I had the sunscreen on and I burned anyway within a very short time.


Some people have reported sun issues with mino though.
