I didn't look at the link, but I've heard of people with lyme using it as a binder for detox.

We have a bag of it...we're currently using it to kill off carpenter ants. I haven't taken any...yet.

Did some ..it rotoed the rooter ...little constipating ..high in silica ...ita in most toothpaste

The silica in the diatomaceous earth is like tiny pieces of glass going through your GI tract. Your first thought may be "that's bad" but it has a tremendous effect on GI bacteria and unwanted pathogens. It did little for me but had great improving effects on my sister. It can help with some conditions.

Girlie, it sounds like what you have may be the industrial grade. Be sure and check before using it! You should only use food grade according to the link that astroman shared. :)

I can't do it either.

It will kill fleas that are in carpet though. That must be the industrial type also. A friend sprinkled it all over her flea infested carpet and then vacuumed and the fleas were all dead. I guess it cuts them like glass. It is a non chemical route for killing.

Both the industrial and food grade kill insects. It's not the contaminants in it that kills them, it's the way the DE works.
The insects 'dry' up. It works mechanically, not chemically.

It is not healthy for anyone to breathe it in...bad for the lungs. (even food grade)

I don't think ours is the 'pool' grade...we bought it at the nursery when getting our plants....so it's most likely not food grade either. Maybe there are three grades.

I am not using it for detox - just killing the dang carpenter ants...

I use DE for fleas and any insects with exoskeletons. Shopping for a new container at my feed store he showed me the actual food grade that you can eat. It had little round granules which were not like the flour-like substance I'd been using. I think there are 3 kinds. The pool kind that perhaps someone spoke of, the flour-like kind that I use for bugs that may be safe in food prep areas which might get it thought to be 'food-grade' safe, and then the edible beaded kind which perhaps has had the mechanics of it changed.

1000Daisies - It is working - just not sure if it will completely irradicate them. It only takes a couple survivors, right? We don't see many out there anymore.
But, this is the third spring/summer we've been doing it.

My husband wears a mask when he applies it. I have applied it without a mask...just by squeezing the container and holding my breath.

If you accidentally breathe in a little bit of the food grade quality - I don't think it's that harmful...long term inhalation can cause respiratory problems. - but that would be a lot of inhalation.

I read that the garden-grade is the food grade. It's definitely powder...I haven't heard of the pellet form.
