Hi 1000Daisies--
First, I hate that you're still dealing with the yeast/fungus overgrowth. It is NASTY and very difficult to get under control once it gets out of balance, which is why you're good, hard efforts have been thwarted by that beast! Also, many lymees and LLMDs/Nds don't realize how many symptoms it causes that are VERY similar to lyme & co and people spin their wheels battling the microbial infections without addressing the underlying yeast/fungal issues...
To start with - 3 wks of Diflucan and all the natural antifungals in the world won't touch a significant systemic overgrowth. The 3 wks is too short and can sometimes build up resistance if it's not implemented long enough.
The natural antifungals are pretty effective in prevention and maintenance during treatment as long as there isn't an ongoing infection - but they don't do a whole lot in most people to reduce the overload. Y/f can also build resistance to the naturals if they are not rotated frequently... the combo remedies some people take over a long period sometimes help people but if the problem is to severe, they then build up resistance to ALL of the ingredients in the combo remedy really fast, and run out of viable options. It's crazy.
The
Nystatin powder is awesome and will probably do a lot of good for you if you have GI issues. It can be helpful if you have leaky gut (which allows the yeast/fungus and other toxins and debris to seep through the mucosal lining of the gut and seep into the blood stream, carrying the yeast/fungus throughout your body). So rebalancing the yeast/fungus in your gut will help prevent spreading it. But won't do a whole lot very fast to attack the yeast/fungus unless it's in the gut.
Since you've been battling this for so long, you clearly have chronic manifestation of yeast/fungus and it's time to hit it hard and fast. I'd go back on the Diflucan, stay on it for at least a couple of months. If you can talk an MD into increasing your dose for the first couple of weeks - great. If not, I highly recommend you double it anyway... and find a creative way to refill your Rx...
It's also very likely you still have significant overgrowth in your gut (not sure if that's where it originated, but if you're like most people, yes). So I'd also get an Rx for PURE Nystatin powder, 500,000 units. Your MD might not know what this is but read up on it below and share info with him/her. Dosing info is also in this link that you can share. You can fill the Rx at most compounding pharmacies - there are several online if you don't have one near you. And if you want a reference, mine here in CA is incredible - great customer service. Email me and I can provide you his info.
Here is a link to a post I placed in the "New to Lyme?" thread that will hopefully answer other questions you have but if not--please ask. I also included other threads where this conversation is discussed--might be info overload but you might also find something useful in them.
I hope this helps!
