Erlichia testing

As you know, I am on abx treatment for Bb. But I think I have Erlichia, based on my symptoms. Do you think I should get tested? I would not like to waste money on the test if it is not going to affect my treatment (by this I mean, for example, if they find I have Erlichia, to change my medications, add something new, etc.). However, I read that abx for Bb also kill Erlichia. My Dr. recommended testing. What do you think?

I would discuss it with your llmd. Personally I do not think that the co-infection testing is reliable so I would not waste my money. If my test came back negative I don't know if I would believe that - I would still wonder.

Most of us have been put on doxy in the early stages of treatment...and it should take care of Ehrlichia.

Maybe other antibiotics do as well.

I only have had Minocycline and Clindamycine. Do you think they are for Erlichia as well?
So, if I understood you well, I should not do testing for Erlichia. That will save my money :)

Correct, there's not much use in testing for the co-infections as the testing is worse than it is for Lyme. Treatments will show you much more accurately if Ehrlichia is something you need to treat for, or if it's another infection that's causing the symptoms.

Tetracyclines are supposed to be pretty effective for Ehrlichia and Anaplasmosis, which is another reason Doxy is given in the early stages of Lyme - to combat those specific co's as well.

Yup same info my Llmd gave me. Doxy is what they would use for this co-infection and even though I tested positive for it there wasn't any change to my protocol because I am taking doxy.
