New allergy to cats??

Just an interesting new experience...
I have read about Lyme disease causing allergies to food but I am wondering if there is any mechanism by which it can also cause allergies to animals? My 10-year-old daughter (recently diagnosed with Lyme disease) has always played with cats and has never had an allergic reaction. She went to play with her aunt's new kittens recently and she was sneezing and rashy plus wherever the kittens scratched her a little bit it raised into a hive or a welt. Later on (after going home and using Benadryl) she broke out into an itchy, bumpy rash on her back. Her dad is allergic to cats so could it be that the cat allergy finally caught up to her? Or maybe her immune system is just on high alert? She loves cats and the reactions are not horrible so I continue to let her play with them. Is that a bad idea??

Hmmm - that is so interesting because these kittens came from a shelter (One of them had an infection and was on antibiotics but it was not specified to be Bartonella) and I suspect my daughter has bartonella. We saw the LL M.D. today and he is putting her on by Biaxin because her PANDAS test came back positive and she has high step titers. She reacted very very badly to amoxicillin so Biaxin was his next best choice. I was reading that it is good for strep, lyme and even Bartonella so I'm hoping that this makes a dent in her symptoms!

My daughter was about 10 when she acquired an allergy to rabbit. We had had rabbits since she was born and all of a sudden she was highly allergic. It was weird how it came on all of a sudden.

No fake fur for her as a teen either.....

Same thing happened to my son. Cats since birth, no problems. Went on antibiotics few weeks after developed allergies. I think antibiotics messed up immune system. Wonder if any of you can recall having antibiotics before sudden onset of allergies.
