Help reading Igenex result!

My results for Lyme test through Igenex are as follows:
IFA for BB is 40= equivocal score

IGM band 31= ind
IGM band 41= ind

IGG band 41= ind

Do you think I have lyme? So far I have only a slight mental fog and occasional headaches. Thank you so much for any assistance.

Did you have a tick bite?

Did you get a bull's eye rash?

Lyme is really a clinical diagnosis even more than a piece of paper. If I was bit by a tick and had these results I would definitely get on antibiotics.

Remember, these bands reflect the reaction of your immune system to Lyme. The test does not measure how badly or lightly you have lyme. It just sees how it is affecting your immune system. Some people have super strong immune systems and do not show any positives.

Many llmd's consider a band that is IND as a positive. Igenex text bands that read IND are significant and are not to be considered a negative.

Clear as mud, eh?

So IND is indeterminate which means maybe yes - maybe no. So if the 31 and 41 had a +, your test would reflect Lyme. So what does this mean? Lyme testing is notorious for being inaccurate. Many people have had a negative test and still treat based on symptoms. Some people never test and just treat.

If you are uncomfortable with the result and really think you have Lyme you could try retesting through Advanced Labs. They are supposed to be very good...in fact may take over the Igenex top spot. It seems as though people are gravitating here. I included a recent discussion about this lab below. Some people tested several times through Igenex with a negative test and then tested at Advanced Labs and finally got a positive result.

saintbaja, I just wanted to say hello and welcome you to the forum.

I agree with Krimpet and PeteZa.

One thing I would ask is if you have brain fog all the time? There are a few different things that can cause that. Hormones for one.

In the New to Lyme thread there is a symptom list. Check that and see if anything else sounds suspect. I know that when I found out I had Lyme, I went through the symptom list and was surprised how many things I had grown used to and didn't even realize that everyone doesn't deal with it!

As Denikeef stated there are other things like hormones and thyroid issues that can cause brain fog. If you believe that you may have Lyme it appears with your limited symptoms and your tests results that your immune system is doing a good job at keeping the disease at bay. That's fantastic. It's a tough call if you want to mess with that.

What many do who are dealing with a full slate of symptoms and have test results like yours is to take something like olive leaf extract(amazon) for a few weeks and then re test. The olive leaf extract will allow your immune system to recognize that you have the disease and create antibodies to fight against it. It's essentially provoking a response. The testing for lyme isn't actually looking for lyme in your blood, it's looking for the presence of antibodies to lyme specific bands.

Just a thought.
