khughes - LLMD's do sometimes use combos that will show one decreases the effectiveness of another:
LLMD MR (I subscribe to his online lyme treatment book) has these protocols listed for Babesia:
"Atovaqone (Mepron) 750mg/5ml combined with one of the following 5ml two times a day. In 1 to 2 months if night sweats or other babesia symptoms are not improving then increase the dose to 10ml two times a day. Combine it with one of the following:
azithromycin (Zithromax) 500mg 1 time a day,
clarithromycin (Biaxin) 500mg 1 pill 2 times a day,
doxycycline 100mg 2 pills 2 times a day, or
minocycline 100mg 1 pill 2 times a day."
But, having said that when I checked with the 'Drug Interaction Report' - nothing came up regarding doxy and Mepron.
/www.drugs.com/interactions-check.php?drug_list=940-0,277-130Note: one of the 'experts' of bartonella treatment - Dr. M. prescribes biaxin and Rifampin together - when you plug them into the drug interaction checker - there is a moderate interaction - that each can reduce effectiveness of the other.
It must be that the 'good' outweighs the 'bad' in some cases.
