Mold test questions

Hi everyone,

I saw a new LLMD and I requested to get tested for mold. She recommended the ERMI cloth test for my home from mycometrics. Has anyone done this or know how good it is? Have you also tested your work location? I do 3 overnights a week so I feel like I should test my work as well.

She also said I should get a urine test for my body from selfreallab to test myself for mold. I just found out this test is $700 and not covered by my insurance. Is it important to test yourself for mold? I keep hearing that you can't get better if mold is an issue. Has anyone gotten this test done or know a similar one that might be cheaper? I want to get it done but I'm running out of money. Thanks!

Are you sure you have the name of the testing company correct? I did not find a selfreallab.

Yes I've been urine tested for mold through Realtimelabs. My test was $1200.00. And yes, you need to be tested before any test is done in the home, etc. and yes, my test was not covered by insurance (well at least I haven't tried to submit the claim yet). I also had the Marcons swab test done which was only $170.00, but they test for different things.

Mainly I've seen most people post about Realtimelabs and it's typically over a $1,000.00. They seem to be a leader in the industry.

You may want to try Genova as well. I seem to recall that they may do mold testing as well. Not sure how much difference in price that would be.

It absolutely ridiculous the price of these labs and the fact that they aren't covered by insurance. I'm 25 I make $12 an hour and haven't been able to work the past 4 months. Not to mention the insane amount of school loans I had to take out before I dropped out of school because of lyme. I guess its time to rob a bank lol. Sorry for the rant.

Anyway I assume testing yourself for mold is very important? Im not sure how I will afford it but it seems like I need to address mold before the healing can truly begin. Is this a fair assessment?

Krimpet you're right the lab was realtimelabs. It seems like it the best mold urine test you can get. I might just have to find a way to suck it up and spend the $700.

I don't think one should go it alone when testing for mold in your house. You can test for mycotoxins through RealTimeLabs I did it recently and it was $699 for the 4 main classes. The problem is if you have some elevated levels of mycotoxins it could mean your body is doing a good job of clearing it and its not a problem for you or it is because its high!

I wasted $4500 getting my house tested for mold. They ran all sorts of tests where 75% of them were worthless. For example a swab test. If I have a little mold and do the swab test what exactly is that going to tell me that is actionable? We know its mold.

If you are going to invest in mold testing your dwelling find a testing company or better yet an individual contractor who is an Industrial Hygenist. These guys have advanced degrees in this stuff not some guy who says he's Mold Certified by attending a 2 hour course and filling out an application with a fee.

I'm in NJ and the guy I'm bringing in is $700 and he's doing the whole house will be here for 5 hours. If I didn't already have the tests that would cost approx another $500-$600. A far cry from the $4500 with no specific scope of work for what I had done.
