CD why? I want to know why you chose to stop after 5 months? I am sorry I don't mean to give you a 3rd degree ha ha ha. I am curious about why people chose what they chose. Every situation is different and there is not right or wrong.
On your sig looks like Buhner protocol works for you. Did you think abx was not working?
atermix,
I didn't "choose" to go off abx after 5 months - my LLMD felt they did all they would for me at that point. He considered my symptoms minimal by then and was concerned for my gut microbiome. I was happy to get off abx for the same reasons.
Because he was against me doing herbs when I was on abx (and I wasn't confident doing so), I was shocked when he told me to transition to an herbal protocol (and I was given a choice of Buhner, Cowden or White).
I chose Cowden for simplicity, herxed with symptoms of coinfections...and got no support from my LLMD because he doesn't know anything about
herbs and thought I'd only been dealing with Lyme.
Rather than agree to (expensive/unreliable) coinfection testing, I opted to spend my money on herbs. Because I herxed on Cowden without any improvements, I switched to Buhner.
I was at 90% when I went off abx, maintained that through almost 6 months on Cowden and can solidly state that I am at 99% now after a year on Buhner with 8 months at full doses.
My symptoms have always been mild and my LLMD (as well as my research ;) tell me that my immune system is taking care of the bulk of things.
I believe my journey took longer than it should because my LLMD didn't diagnose me with Bartonella (Buhner's herbalist did)....and my "regular" life as well as a misbehaving thyroid slowed my healing down many times.
Whatever, I'm getting there ;)
