If I started antibiotics early, am I safe from the list of symptoms?

I am new to Lyme Disease and really trying to figure out what's going on. I really appreciate any help you can give.

The main thing I don't understand: is the long list of symptoms what could occur in patients who go undiagnosed for a long time? I was diagnosed 13 days after the tickets bite and started antibiotics on day 14. The tick was attached to me for 28 hours. I took doxy for 21 days.

So am I in the clear? Or since I waited 14 days while the infection grew before starting meds, is that long enough to cause long term symptoms?

It has been 6 weeks since my tick bite. Now I'm getting painful mouth ulcers at the gum line and terrible jaw pain. I don't know if it's related to the Lyme?

Any thoughts? I just want to know if I should be worried about long term symptoms or if I caught it early enough to prevent them?

I'm sorry that you have this to worry about...but am glad you found us. You are smart to be asking questions.

Did you have any symptoms at Day 14? A bulls eye rash?

I can't answer whether or not you will get symptoms long-term. But, you have caught it early - and if you get proper treatment, your chances are very good that you will get it in remission.

If you had no symptoms at all, - only the tick bite - 28 days of antibiotics is recommended.
What was your dosage of doxycycline?

It should be 200 mg twice daily.

Because it sounds like you do have symptoms 6 weeks later - I think you should find a LLMD (Lyme Literate MD) and schedule an appointment. The sooner you get in, the better off you will be.
Often it takes several weeks - to months to get in to see a LLMD...but you can ask to be put on their cancellation list...and hopefully get in sooner.

You want to see a LLMD...as they are the Lyme specialists.

Is there anyway you can get more antibiotics to take until you can see a LLMD?

Sorry for the reason you're here but glad you found us.

There's a certain percentage of people who are not fully healed by the most commonly-prescribed meds they get after a tick bite. I am one of them and I started treatment the day after I pulled the tick out of my abdomen.

The fact that you've developed some issues after going off doxy is a sign you need more treatment.

The lists of symptoms you've found represent the various ways Lyme can manifest. That doesn't mean every Lyme patient develops every symptom. Of course, the longer one is infected and the longer one doesn't receive the proper treatment could set the person up for the development of more symptoms.

Girlie gave you some great information and I do hope you pursue further treatment soon. You definitely have the potential to heal but will need some sort of treatment to make that happen.

Hi AmyJen and welcome to the forum. We are glad to have you join us.

You are going to have a lot of questions so I would like to suggest that you read the "New to Lyme-start here" which is the very first post.

If you have not been tested I would suggest that you be tested through the Igenix Lab in Calif.
You have to order the test and they will send you a packet that you take to a local lab. If you decided to do this let us know and we can advise you on the specifics.

I am so glad you found this early. With more treatment you can hopefully avoid a lot of the symptoms!

Amy Jen how were you diagnosed?

Like it has been said, the list of "possible" lyme symptoms is very long and not everyone gets every symptom. No one can tell which ones they will get or how many.

Because you are experiencing new symptoms says that you may not have been treated long enough to me. I think you should be in treatment now.
