Can herxes cause shortness of breath? I was just blindsided by severe exhaustion/weakness/air hunger even though I'm laying down and it's really scary. Thank you so much.

Yep, those are most likely Babesia symptoms, although Lyme is known to cause that as well at times.
I bet you know what I'm going to say next -
Detox, detox, detox!

Yes, in fact I had that happen a while back. It is scary. Do a lot of detoxing today and try not to exert yourself a lot because that will make it worse. I know that is easier said that done with a baby.
Do you have any Pinella and Burbur? If you do take 10 drops of each every 15 minutes for a couple of hours. I would check it out on line first to see if it is ok when nursing.

Ok thank you both! Yes, I will detox. This is so awful. And so scary. I have noticed it a little here and there but it is really intense and long lasting today. I am very grateful my husband is home today to be with our son so I can lay down. The herxes, they can't kill you can they? So scary.

I wish I could tell you that you have nothing to worry about
, but I can't. Herxes can get so intense that they can become life threatening, but we feel extremely horrid long before that.
While you do need to be aware to not let a herx get extreme, please do not worry unnecessarily - shortness of breathe is a scary situation! But it rarely leads to serious issues. Remember to take slow, deep breathes during the day.
We actually are getting enough air, but Babesia destroys red blood cells - the ones responsible for carrying oxygen through our blood.
You and your doc do suspect Babesia, right?

DS always has trouble feeling like he's getting a full breath. That and racing heart (POTS style) are his most long lasting symptoms. At his appointment this week they say it is still the central nervous system acting up.
Here's what has worked for him but not all patients according to his Lyme specialist: albuterol inhaler, uses all day long every 4 hours, 2 puffs. For the really bad episodes - lorzepam (ativan). Luckily he's used it just once. He has noticed doing tai chi breathing helps. Before he got help from the LLMD he got some relief breathing into a paper bag. We also encourage him to practice deep belly breaths when he's not completely wiped with severe air hunger but just has his regular air hunger (getting 60% breath). Pinella and Burbur too as mentioned above.
Not sure we've found the right detox for that symptom yet though....it's a tough one.
