I've read in some english texts that C3a and C4a might be useful as diagnostic tools (not specific for Lyme). Has anyone done these tests?

In the german labs there is only offered C3 and C4 tests. Does someone know if C3 is the same as C3a in this instance?

I don't know enough to talk intelligently about C3a and C4a, but here is a good article:

As far as if C3 is the same as C3a - you will likely have to talk to someone at the lab, or search around online to see if you can find any pages that will be helpful to you.

C3a is supposed to be linked more closely with Lyme and c4a with mold. My doctor tracks my c4a along with other markets to monitor my immune system.

I'll read through the article later, but I'm pretty sure that C3 and C3a are not the same.

Can someone who has done these tests please tell me the reference range? So I could compare it with the reference range of my C3/C4 test. If these both differ significantly, than C3 and C3a (or C4 and C4a) are surely different tests.

Normal Range: 0-2830 ng/ml

C4a has become the inflammatory marker of greatest significance looking at innate immune responses in those with exposure to Water Damaged Buildings (WDB).

The complement system is a group of proteins that move freely through your bloodstream. The proteins work with your immune system and play a role in the development of inflammation.

Each complement activates inflammatory responses, with spillover of effect from the innate immune response to acquired immune response and hematologic parameters.

These short-lived products are re-manufactured rapidly, such that an initial rise of plasma levels is seen within 12 hours of exposure to biotoxins, and sustained elevation is seen until definitive therapy is initiated.

I haven't had C3a tested. Only C4a. It was normal, which indicates my issues are not mold related, though my haplotype is multi susceptible. I don't have the latest results yet, so hopefully it is still in normal range.

Sorry for multiple posts... that's my brain today. They link ERMI (mold testing score) to MSH and C4a to determine if one is living in a "too moldy" environment. We checked our house and thankfully had no mold issues. My C4a is normal at 1900ish, and my MSH is in the TANK at 5.1 ... so something is causing it that seems like NOT MOLD.

The surviving mold web site discusses a "safe environment" if MSH < 35 and C4a < 20,000 and ERMI > 2 or MSH < 35, C4a > 20,000 and ERMI > -1 ... so if you C4a is >20,000 you need a much less moldy environment to find health.

I fall into the safe category with MSH < 35, C4A < 20,000 and ERMI < 2

I would be curious about my C3a, but we haven't gone there yet.

and what about CD3+? Is it the same?
