due to lyme positive test plus symptoms I was put on 100mg bid doxy for a month by my physician. I requested that I stay on it for a second month and use 200mg bid. Am now on my second week of second month and breaking out in a horrible rash on my left arm. I have covered up when out walking but now realize this rash could be from when I am out driving in the car and my arms aren't covered. I am very concerned after reading that this could cause me to be permanently unable to go out in the sun in the future :( I do hope that is not true. In the meantime, my symptoms all disappeared soon after taking first dose and am thinking that now I have been on it 6 weeks perhaps I can stop due to this rash? I am waiting for my Knotweed/Cats Claw to arrive from greendragon (they are back ordered) and will be on that regime for a couple of months. vera

i got a bad sunburn from the doxy from only a short time in the sun.
It wasn't permanent...that was in 2014...and I have been out in the sun a lot since then.
Where did you read that it could be a permanent issue? I haven't heard of that.
So, you should treat to symptom free PLUS 4-8 weeks - sounds like you've treated for 6 weeks after symptoms abated? You're probably fine...
BUT - If it were me...I'd do that extra two weeks...especially since your first month was only half of the recommended dose. Stay out of the sun though.

thnx really appreciate your input :) I had googled rash/doxy and somewhere one of the reports said you can continue to break out from sun exposure after doxy but glad to hear thats probably not true :) Thanks for your encouragement, I think I will stick out the next couple weeks and make sure my arms are covered when driving. Hope to get the herbs by then and start on them. I am already taking astragalus/teasel/olive leaf.

I have two friends who has this issue, the rash went away and didn't return upon taking care in the sun, they are still on doxy with no issues, that was almost 6 months ago. hope this helps.
