Off topic, but having a Martha Stewart moment

I know im a guy, but im kinda old fashioned and can be creative, though all my ex's would beg to differ smilewinkgrin Does anyone make their own home products? By that I mean househood goods, specifically something that caught my eye.....bar soap. I used liquid soaps for years but recently went back to bar soaps. I was sitting here last evening and ran across a video on it.

Does the bar soap turn out good? Is it as or more effective than manufactured? Is it healthy? Is it cost effective? And is it fun? Because if its a chore I may end up not liking spending my time on it. I get satisfaction from tinkering(im a guy) im wondering if this is something this old country boy can do.

trader, I have never made bar soap. But have thought about making my own shower gel. (I like the convenience). I do make my own facial cleanser and have had great results with that. I am not sure it is real cost effective with all the ingredients I add however.

There is something satisfying about making your own products and knowing they are healthy!

Go for it!!! What do you have to lose? (Well maybe time and $, but hey!)

I love that you posted this. It is lyme related in a sense. We all need a hobby whilst healing, natural products (no parabens, etc...) are important to overall health. I have not made my own soap. I do buy homemade soap made with essential oils and love it. I do make household cleanser (with essential oils for dusting) and I make salve, lyme ointment that I put on the soles of my feet at night for detoxing (light base of organic coconut oil with Clove, Oregano, Frankinsence, Cinnamon Bark and Thieves - those are the 'lyme' oils). I also make my own almond milk and bread. Let us know how the soap goes.

you had to mention martha stewart didn't you? i did some consulting work for her and she's about as nasty a person as they come. i'll look past it though ;)

Was she really? While I have never been a Martha follower/fan, I have met her several times and even went to her home in Maine (as the guest of a guest). She seemed very nice but who knows what someone is really like. She has lyme so maybe it was lyme rage when you knew her - LOL! It would be quite challenging to be that level of perfectionist while having lyme.

Sorry Rikky...lol. Knew she spent time in the slammer, but didnt know her attitude fit the jumpsuit. I just use her name in place of suzy home maker cause people know who she is.

trader, I make my own bar soap and my own hand/body lotion.

Hand soap is easy to make. I like my liquid Dr. Bronners lavender soap, but hubby loves the bar soap I make him. I

Peteza, I tried to open the link but it wouldn't open. I want to make essential oil bar soap. I swear by essential oils. And no I am not a distributor. I have used them for years for everything. My mom had a life threatening stroke four years ago. I got a call to fly out. She was in ICU and we were told she probably wouldn't make it 24 hours. After 24 hours we were told if she does wake up she will never walk, talk or live on her own again. I very gently got into her bed and did essential oil rubs on her hands and feet, and used brain power on her crown and ears. I did that and prayed for over 12 hours straight (I'm not really religious but very spiritual). She was sitting up in bed the next day and talking and two weeks after that went home to her own home without any noticeable deficit. Now I don't know if it was the prayers, the oils, the love, the touch, or my mother's stubborn nature but it worked. Sadly, she had a few more last year and this time had to be moved to assisted living. I have been using them now with lyme. Brain power on my ear lobes (correlates the brain), a few drops on my fingers and hold them to my nose and do deep breathing, and the lyme mixture on the soles of my feet at night. Ramble over.

Peteza, you will like Michael Phelps and make your own soap! You are a lymie inspiration for sure!

Trader758- what an awesome post and that comment..."attitude fit the jumpsuit..." HA! Too funny! Maybe Huddie is right - she was having a Lyme moment when Rikky dealt with Ms. Martha. Anyway, I think it great that you are considering making your own products! My father -when he was battling cancer, used to make his own bars of soap, deodorant etc. He used Dr. Hulda Clarke's recipes that are in her first book,"Cure for all Cancers" I hope that is the right title-been well over 20 yrs. now. He was so focused on healing that he would even make his own parasite cleanse tinctures - would go around the neighborhood and collect all the wild black walnuts on the ground ( he would ask the neighbors first before collecting them). Anyway, his homemade strawberry ice cream was the best - never had anything tastier to this day. He was determined to put into his body and onto his body only the cleanest, "purest" stuff and he is still standing today. You can do it Trader! You will feel loads better, too!
