Question about herbs

I have a question about tinctures.

Do you take them before or after meal and how long do you wait?
I have stomach issues, which would be the best way for me to take them?

I do not have issues with them bothering my stomach. However if you do, it is ok to take them with food. According to Buhner you can take them with or without and in the liquid of your choice. I did try one of them by itself (no liquid) and that did bother me so now I take all of mine with a small amount of Cranberry juice.

My morning and afternoon tinctures are typically always before my meals and my evening tinctures are about an hour after dinner.

I'm also with the before a meal camp. I haven't had any stomach issues and I mostly make sure I take them before I eat something. Buhner says you can mix them in juice.

I used to take them with pomegranate juice but not anymore - it's expensive , so it's one of the things that got nixed when I realized that I could possibly be off work for a long time.

BBM - when you take abx on the p450 list - you may not want to take herbs that are also on that list.

BUT - if the herbs you're taking aren't on the list, then no issues taking them with abx on that list. Make sense?


I don't know how much we should be concerning ourselves with the list, though...as some experienced LLMD's and LLND's - don't seem to be concerned about the interactions and are prescribing abx to be taken with the herbs on the list....and also two abx on the list are being prescribed together...


(I think biaxin and Rifampin are on the list...and they are often prescribed together...so I think in some situations...the good of those two outweighs the bad?)

you will see that clarithromycin (biaxin) is an inhibitor, while Rifampin and Artemisinin are inducers.


But there's different categories in each section...and I have no clue how that affects the interaction.

I didn't see Crytolepis on the chart - but someone did post about it awhile back.

It might not be as effective as taking them all together at once but , you could take one and see how you feel. Then add another, one at time to see how your stomach and the rest of your body reacts. This might give you a better assessment of what is hard on your stomach or not. I have stomach issues that are pretty severe at times so I take what I think some people call the Holy three, tumeric, ginger and holy basil. I eat raw tumeric and ginger root and take holy basil tincture or tea frequently.
I get nausea and have inflammation almost everyday so whenever I feel nausea I eat ginger, and always take the tumeric when I'm bloated. I've heard friends say they suck on lemons, but tgat can be hard on your esophogas and duodenum if you have acid reflux. They help your body be more alkaline.
