Biting Inside of Mouth

This symptom comes and goes and at the moment I have been overdoing things and very emotional and this other symptom comes back every time I am struggling, biting the same part of the inside of my mouth every time, its bleeding and ulcerated and really sore. However, almost every time I chew I keep biting it - its insane - I have to think about chewing and it still even happens. Is it neurological ?

Thanks PeteZa, yes have been swishing himalayan pink salt and warm water, it stings but does keep it clean.

My daughter bought me some colouring books for adults and some rather nice colouring pens, have found that very therapeutic actually :) !!

I keep biting my bottom lip with my eye tooth (not a habit - not on purpose) - and now that it's slightly swollen, I'm biting it even more...

I don't know why this has become a problem now...nothing about the structure of my mouth has changed - not that I know of anyway.

I'm so sorry you're experiencing this - I have chewed the insides of my cheeks since I developed TMJ at the age of 8-9. I kind of have callouses from it now, which prompted an arrogant and inexperienced dentist to actually chastise me for chewing my cheeks because "it could lead to cancer" he told me... I'm not sure how he was expecting me to prevent doing something while I slept but I never went back to him to find out. Whatever dude, I'm sorry you didn't get into medical school--was my response to him in my head.

It is important to keep it clean, as mentioned, and it will heal - just chew on the other side of your mouth, try soups and smoothies for a few days until it can scab over. Sometimes I would try chewing with gauze stuck up on that side of my mouth - to help provide a space between my cheek and my teeth. Also, you can try numbing it with Cepocol (sorry - not sure that is the right product name- it's a spray that numbs your oral tissue used by people who develop canker sores).

An oral surgeon explained that the cheek gets swollen and agitated and in your case, the skin is broken) from the nighttime grinding - or chomping that develops with TMJ.

You can start grinding or chomping your sleep due to stress. I've also read that bacteria in your teeth and jaw (which everyone has) can cause you to want to "chew" during your sleep - as a way of relieving the sensation (kind of like scratching an itch) and of course, Lyme & co treatment can stir up the bacteria in our bodies.

If it is a bacteria issue - oil pulling with a antimicrobial (like tee tree oil or oil of oregano) would probably help quite a bit - and make you feel better.

If it continues, you might want to talk w/ your dentist just to let him know what is going on and he might be able to fit you for a mouth guard which might help (although not while you're eating, which seems to be the biggest problem).

This is interesting, because I did this too at my sickest. I was very worried and not feeling good - so hard to tell if it was neuro or do to stress.

Yes this happens to me from time to time when I'm chewing. This is just very annoying to me. I'll be glad when this clears up. I also did not have this before.
