BLT and Crypto for Lyme Treatment

I wanted to reach out to see if anyone has used these herbs and has had any success with treating with them. I got an IGENEX positive at the end of August. Had been treating with amoxicillin for 6 weeks. When I got the positive test, my LLMD immediately added Dapsone. I had a pretty bad reaction to the Dapsone and she took me off of it within a week. Next she put me on Doxy and Ceftin (pulled me off of the amoxicillin). I started having extreme migraines and neck pains and extreme fatigue. When I added in the Ceftin I started to get vertigo and had trouble standing upright. In the meantime I saw another doctor that was recommended to me for lyme (in the same practice) and she recommended going off of antibiotics entirely and going on BLT and Crypto to help to get my viral load down, increase immunity, and also go after the lyme. I now have two doctors working together. The first doctor called me last night and agreed that I should maybe take a break from the antibiotics b/c it seems as though my body is not keeping up with the die off (I have been doing a lot of detox methods daily).

My question is...has anyone had success with these herbs? Also, have others had extreme reactions to the antibiotic treatments and seen success with just herbs? I have always leaned toward more natural approaches, but that sort of makes me nervous with lyme...especially given the fact that I caught it fairly early (within a few months) and that I haven't been treating TOO long on antibiotics. As of right now though, amoxicillin seems to be the only antibiotic that I can tolerate. I also asked her if I should have just stuck out the extreme reactions (herxing) to try to push through, but she said that pushing too hard with too much inflammation could be worse in the long run.

I am so confused and anxious about what direction to take for treatment. I know that everyone is different, but it's discouraging to keep trying new meds and feel like I can't seem to push through the side effects (or herx reactions) to get to the other side and see some relief.

And was a total failure for me, and I healed a 40 yr old set of infections with herbs only. And I'm not the only one that has healed using herbs only. The BLT is a product that is fairly new though and I've not heard much from those using it. But the use of pharma abx is not required for most to heal from these infections.

The doctor that told you it's not safe to push through bed herxing is correct, although inflammation in the long term is far from the only thing to be concerned about. Severe herxing can and does lead to a cytokine cascade reaction, which is basically an anaphylactic type reaction.

Have you had any gene mutation (MTHFR) testing done? This could be part of your issue, as those with certain gene mutations have a difficult time detoxing well. There are supplements that you can take to help, depending on the exact gene mutations a person has.

I have to carefully introduce detoxing methods, but am required to do a lot of things to help my body detox when I'm in treatment. It's possible that you haven't found enough of the right ways to help your body detox yet.

Trial and error is kind of a cruel way to have to find what works for us, but it's the only way we have. Hang in there and I hope this latest treatment is what works for you.

I am not sure that i had the chance to welcome you, so welcome!

I just wanted to add that herbs can be used along side of the amoxicillin, although I am not sure about the BLT. Is it a combination of herbs?

One of the nice things with the herbs is that if you use tincture form you can go at it very slowly reducing the severity of any herx reactions.

I have been using herbs for 6 months and am finding that I have very little fatigue now. Some of the other symptoms are more stubborn but I have had Lyme for a very long time.

Be encouraged that you will find what works for you. Sometimes it just takes patience. And know that most do not get immediate results but with time and patience you will see healing.

Thank you for the responses! It's good to know that I can use both of those herbs with amoxicillin. Several of my symptoms seem to be neurological in nature, so I want to be sure that I'm addressing those by getting through the brain blood barrier. I asked if amoxicillin could do that and she mentioned that if they monitor blood levels and get it to the "optimal level" that it could. Does anyone have experience with this? I know that one antibiotic isn't going to cut it, but maybe the combination of the amoxicillin and herbs might be a better approach for me for now.

I am a full time working mom of two little ones, so my world has been rocked by this (as I'm sure many others have as well). It's hard for me to be so fatigued and feel like I can't be there for my kids like I would like to be. I'm really having a tough time dealing with the emotional side of things, which I know makes the lyme worse.

I will take another look at the suggested detox methods to see if there's anything else that I can try to do in addition to what I've been doing. I would love to do a little bit of exercise as I know that can help a lot, but my fatigue has been bad (due to the EBV in part I'm sure).

Traveler - Your story is so inspiring to me! It gives me hope that I can work through this even if I struggle with antibiotics. I think my mindset needs to change...I (and my other family members) keep thinking because I caught it after only a couple of months that it should be easier to treat, but the more I read the more I know that's not true (especially given the neurological involvement).

I'm so sorry that you had to even consider that! I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Amox needs to be combined with another abx that will keep it in the blood stream longer, or it has very little effect on the bacteria. It's usually combined with Probenecid.

I raised 2 kids while I was quite ill with these stupid infections, and let me tell you, when I apologized to them for not being "all I could be" as a Mom - they set me straight and told me that I WAS, because I was always available to them to talk to, to be with, and that it not only brought them a better understanding of compassion, but in helping those that need it.

Traveler - Thank you for that link! I am such an active mom...always up and running around and involved. This has really changed my ability to do things with my sons. It's been hard...really hard...and I've had a ton of guilt. I appreciate the article!

Take it to heart, and know that you can influence both of your son's ability for compassion. Nothing is a better teacher than experience - and so it is with compassion as well.

I'm sure you are doing your very best, so what more could you do? Do what you can, and don't worry about what you can't, as it's a LOT more important for you to be there (even compromised) than for you to not be there!
