I would strongly consider fungal issues.
I don't think I've completely conquered mine, I still have reactions to eating even the slightest amounts of foods like rice, beans, avocado, even some of the starchier vegetables, but there was a point where I would crave high sugar, high carb foods, to the point of looking up pictures and videos of them.
For awhile, I told myself that it was just due to the fact that I couldn't eat them anymore, and I missed that, but I'm now fairly certain that it was something more than that. It wasn't just me that was hungry for these things, it's the bacteria, the fungus, whatever else that resides in me.
It was very unhealthy, mentally. Like, some sort of addiction. Speaking of which, the reason you feel better after eating such things could, well, for one, be just your brain giving off chemicals because you ate something you find pleasurable, but also because you're feeding that "addiction."
There have been points where I have given up on my treatment, started eating a ton of junk again, and.. yeah, I always felt great, until the meal was finished. Then, I was like.. okay, I'm stupid. Eventually, things got worse and worse. I think it's these behaviors that helped to make my GI function really screwed up and give rise to fungal issues, etc.
Again, I don't think I have completely ridden myself of what causes this, but I do know that the cravings are nowhere near as strong as they were before I started taking anti-fungal medications. I don't find myself wanting to sniff certain foods, look up videos, anything like that.
I think I may have a mold issue though, to be honest, so I don't know. I have reactions to things that most say are relatively safe, even on strict candida diet. Avocados strike me as things that could have microscopic mold growing on it or something, rice as well.
For "safe" snacks.. that are sweet.. I don't know. You could try the artificial stuff, but I'm not brave enough for that. I really used to like putting sliced cucumbers in the freezer for an hour or two, 'til they got crunchy, then eating them. The flavor changed slightly - not sweet, but not quite as "vegetable-y," and kinda had a popsicle texture. I started reacting to them too though.
You could try low sugar fruits, but... I would think about
fungal issues, if I were you. Like I said, the natural thought is to just assume you are craving these things, because you can no longer eat them, which may be the cause in part, but it could be something more sinister.
