So... Just got TGF-B results back. Max is like 2,000 and I'm at 22,000. Doctor is like 99% convinced it's mold and facilitating my lyme disease. Makes sense. I got sick two months after moving into this new house. Always thought the house was kind of dank. But wow. I don't have time to dive into another controversy like this this week. Any insight? Anyone been through this? This is the most respectable doc i've ever been to. But i just want to gain some community insight before i hire some dudes to turn the place over. Besides that he's sending me a list of some binders to help eliminate and some stuff to hopefully tune down the TGF-B in the meantime.

Hey this is great news, could be another piece of the puzzle for you, and possibly a major one. I know mold is an issue for many lyme/coinfections patients and can hinder the treatment process.

Any chance you can invest in an air purifier? there are mold tests you can order and run in your house although I'm not well-versed on that. Sometimes people have to move or spend a lot of $$$ fixing their house due to the mold issues.

Hopefully some other members will chime in with their experiences. I only know via hearing from other patients with treatment problems who found out about their mold issues and dealing with it ended up being the big breakthrough they needed.

I had the realtime labs mycotoxin urine test done. It's not cheap - $700 and insurance isn't covering. I also have elevated c4a & ch50. Not sure if I've ever tested tgf-b. My test is positive for gliotoxin which could be mold or candida. It's like a giant puzzle, right?!

You may want to buy the mold/mycotoxin book by Neil Nathan. I thought it was really helpful.

Hey, psilo - I also have mold/lyme issues. I was fortunate though, and it seems like the mold factor is under control. We did test our house to be sure and our house was fine. Ii seem to be dealing with co-infections at this point. My TGF-B1 isn't nearly as high as yours though. I have done 3 months of binders. you can go to www.survivingmold.com for tons more info. I do their VCS eye tests every month to check progress.

You can PM me with any questions... I can try to help. I am a few months farther along and the web site has lots of info on the tests you took, the tests for your home, etc.

Thanks guys. My problem is that... well i can't actually find any evidence that TGF-B is associated specifically with mold. I mean i've heard it from others, but am i missing something? Where did this association come from? There's nothing in the literature. I'm not trying to be a denialist i just genuinely want to make sure i'm not distracting myself from what just might be a consequence of lyme.

I'll look into that book and those resources when i get more time. I knew this would be another controversial thing i shouldn't have stuck my head into right now :P

I've briefly skimmed them. I finally see some more detailed stuff i can get around to reading later this week. But yeah, i hate that. I mean, it's not like i just take an herb and see if it helps. I have to abandon my house for an unspecified period of time, throw a bunch of stuff out, clean everything, and hire some guys to come in... all on one guys word. That's kind of insane. I might opt to have a mycotoxin test done first just to make sure but i'm sure there's more controversy in that. When does one have time for normal life in all this? LOL. When my doctor told me i thought "Aha the light!" and now i'm just thrown into more obscurity lol.

It IS another part of the picture that you didn't know about previously though, and many find that they can't heal until the mold is addressed, so hopefully it does end up being an "AHA!" moment for you after all!!

I know that there are different types of mold, so I'm not sure which is which. I've been one of those lucky ones that have been spared from suffering from mold issues, even though I live in the semi-southern US (Arkansas).

Traveler thats what i'm hoping. At this point i still haven't been sufficiently convinced that TGF-B is mold specific based on the lack of information. Like you said it's all coming from one guy. Thanks for the thread link. Will give it a thorough read.

Artemix, i don't know much about it. But my understanding is that it can get in walls, vents,etc and can require some deep investigation to address it properly.

I don't have the scientific data to this, or a link to where I read it, but not long ago I read that Bleach has some kind of element to it that encourages mold growth. It recommended white vinegar. I have a real problem with mold in the basement and on surfaces in the home during the summer months (No a/c), that I've tried to keep up since about '93 with 50/50 diluted bleach. I tried the vinegar on my kitchen cupboards, and sent someone to the basement walls with it. No regrowth in any of the places we've used it on. I did the cupboards over a 2 week time span about 2 1/2 months ago. The basement was only a few weeks ago so far.

If you have an area that keeps getting the white/gray mold, try the white vinegar. I suggest full strength.

My doc told me to take the VCS test of Shoemaker's and then try Cholestyramine. I asked him about testing and he said, "Ah. Those are expensive. Let's just see if you feel better with the CSM first." Thanks doc. Saving me the big bucks....I guess??

Many people have told me that completely healing from Lyme isn't quite possible without first addressing the mold issues. Hope this is (but really hope it isn't) your problem. It would be great to have that next piece of the puzzle. Good luck!

Some people mention Dr. R and Dr. S as mold people with differences from Dr. S. I dont think Dr. S is the only lyme mold advocate.

He's one of the few making bank off of mold research/protocols. Haha.

It's like Dr. Wilson for adrenal fatigue and Horowitz for Lyme. Definitely not the only ones making significant advancements.
