That research was carried out in a lab, with "lab raised" Lyme bacteria and in a test tube.
We know that not only do Lyme bacteria react differently in the body than it does in a lab - we have real understanding on exactly how lab raised Lyme bacteria would respond in the body - if it would.
That research is also not new and Lyme patients have been trying to use it alone to treat their infections for a bit now, and have had no luck. Some are still using it along with other protocols (because it won't hurt us), but most have not been able to pin down any specific help that they have received by using stevia.
I am very much for the use of stevia, but as an alternative sweetener, because it has possibly some benefit to us, but not as a treatment. I've read the research and am not convinced it will work against Lyme bacteria in the body.
