headache- herx or doxy?

been on doxy 400mg last 29 days after 30 days at 200mg in July....have 2 refills left at 400mg

over last 3 weeks have developed full head headaches...back of skull, into neck and sometimes between shoulder blades...otherwise forehead, temples, behind eyes...moves around from place to place

different times it is at different parts of head, but i have gotten a headache everyday of last 3 weeks...

originally thought was probably a herx, and my "llmd" said that was probably the case as well...althought researching doxy shows that "intercranial pressure" is a side effect- llmd never mentioned that...im not in ER levels of pain with the headache but it is beginning to real bother me..

my question- is this likely:
1) a herx (my lyme is fatigue, brain fog and twitching before headaches- so neuro)
2)doxy side effect
3) this is just the type of headaches that lymies get (all over head, stiff neck, betw shoulder blades, neck cracking etc) and i was just lucky to not get it before now

i know no one can really answer this, but im concerned if its a doxy side effect- and yes im detoxing quite alot...thanks for anyone with input

It sounds like more than a headache (between shoulder blades - I've never had a headache that affected that area before)...the moving around...it really does sound like a herx.

You might want to back off on the dose for a couple days...see if that along with detoxing can get you some relief.

i just read an article from a dr corson that says:

"Borrelia headaches are commonly suboccipital (between the skull and first vertebrae), whereas headaches resulting from Babesia tend to be frontal or behind the eyes."

is this accepted/true?

I don't know if that's true.

Found this - coincides with what you posted...

"Headaches. Often these occur in the frontal region, or behind one (or both) eyes and unfortunately, you’ll get diagnosed with a “sinus headache” but it’s not. Sometimes the headache is in the back of the head, or your head feels like it’s in a vice grip. Lyme headaches could be caused by slightly inflamed meninges, or high intracranial pressure, or vascular reasons or all of that.

Lyme (Borrelia) headaches tend to hurt towards the back of your head, whereas Babesia headaches tend to be more frontal (this is not a hard fast rule). If you feel like your brain or your head is smoldering or on fire, this could indicate Lyme or Babesia infection or both. I wrote about this in great detail in my book, Headache Free. One hallmark symptom of Lyme headaches is that they move around your head quickly."

Then there are bartonella headaches. They are often in/around the eyes. some describe them as 'ice pick' headaches.

thanks girlie- dont have the icepick headaches thankfully....i do have the moving around and the back of the skull/neck...my only fear is the doxy-intercranial pressure issue....

Crazy exactly how u described your symptoms is how mine are. Mostly left side base of skull down to shoulder blades. Then spine feels so painful. When I started doxy headaches were bad but then I added gse and I thought my brain was going to explode. That was two months ago and headaches are getting better but neck is so tight at times and spine hurts bad

did you have headaches before doxy? im just afraid that this is a doxy side effect and i should try to change abx...but if its a herx, than its working....i find that my headaches are worse when im working than on the weekends when im just sitting around
