Event raising awareness for Lyme is a fortune!

I'm in Manhattan and received an invitation to a Lyme Awareness Night. Yolanda and Gigi Hadid, Ali Hilfiger and a whole lot more. Event is near my apartment so I figured if I have energy that evening I'll attend. It's for a good cause. I clicked on purchase tickets. Cheapest ticket is $750. Seriously?

I know right! I was willing to pay $100-150 thinking if the money goes to research that will be money well spent. Besideswhat other events can we attend where no one will think it odd that we leave early because we are tired LOL! And just think of all the money they are saving on booze!

I have been in Manhattan a long time and very few of these events give artist discounts. Both my in-laws are professional artists. I often borrow their museum cards to get in for free. Love that perk - especially since Moma is $20 to get in now.

Yes they do. They probably have their performances lined up but you never know - and you can always get on the list for the next one.

What do you play? At least you have a profession that you don't have to quit due to lyme - unless you had to cancel touring.

I understand. The art world is so subjective and so 'who you know' - I think your work is very marketable. Perhaps smaller galleries for now. Glad the paint doesn't bother you.

Exactly...that was my point.. It is a good cause on the paper but I am very skeptical of donating money that goes for marketing purposes most times. Right?
Look the huge profit that the pink ribbon has created in the past years!!! Even NFL is on the band wagon....I think last year one of our local player was offering free mammograms for women who could not afford one. Really?? Where all the money generated from BC charity goes then...no woman in the US should be denied preventive BC care.
So to that...and the other charities. It is so unfortunate that sometime the funding goes to the gala and not to the researcher.

I always want to know...where the money goes on research exactly. Who are we paying to do this and what are they doing that they need more fundings? My understanding is that the money funds the researcher pay check (as it should)....but what else? Clinical studies? Control Groups? or just simple sitting at microscope time? I am not trying to "audit" lyme research in details just want to know how and why it takes so much money. There is no medicine in the works for lyme disease...we are using the same treatment for decades. Please enlighten me in this area.....
