Looking for suggestions on where to get a SPECT&MRI of brain in NC

I'm not in the area, so I can't comment on where to go, but I surely don't understand their reasoning of the results of the SPECT scan determining if you need an IV or not. I had a SPECT scan, and had 2 areas of my brain with low blood flow, and yet I not only didn't need abx, but didn't need an IV either.

IV's and PICCs only real purpose is to avoid the gastrointestinal system for medications due to too much dysfunction. Otherwise, many good LLMD's state that orals will bring about healing (with less cost and less risk) than IV's and PICC's. This would be something you should be very carefully consider. As always though, the choice is yours.

Hopefully this will be kept bumped up so that someone that lives in that area will be able to give you some ideas!

Trav - I think their reasoning is that orals don't do as good a job at crossing the blood brain barrier but when I call in on Nov 4th for my phone appt (they're letting me do that because my son doesnt have to go back to see them until beginning of January.

The SPECT will show how the brain is working. Since I have significant near symptoms I expect there will be some findings. The brain MRI is because I haven't had one in 15 yrs. He wants to know if any areas of plaque show up. It wouldn't be surprising if they did because I've had facial numbness for quite a while (at least several years) that I didn't have for at least the first 25 years of symptoms.

I eventually decided there isn't anyway way I can go to Charlotte. My husband is leaving Wed for a 10 day trip for work. If he weren't traveling we could have potentially done it in one day or had my Dad come over to stay with my son over night.

So I am going to do it at UNC. I have to believe Dr J would be happy with that. But I found out it has to be prepared by my insurance so it'll be at least Friday before I can schedule it. But I'll have to have my son pickup my Dad to check me out. My Dad can't drive (he uses a walker) but my son can. So it'll work out ok.

My husband is going to try to shift some of the travel to people who report to him but one of the guys has an 18 month old having seizures (for at least 6 months). So far they haven't been successful at treating them. Neither of us feel comfortable with the guy traveling to China and then the baby having an emergency.
