I posted about Lyme Gala in Manhattan that I was thinking of attending until I found the least expensive ticket cost $750.00! Well the event sold out and raised $3MM towards lyme research. That's good.

There is a lot of interesting information @globallymealliance.org. This year's Gala is Thursday Oct 13th. Will be interesting if they surpass the 2015 three million mark.

I read somewhere that Alec Baldwin has chronic Lyme Disease with recurring symptoms at the same time every year.

Well if that is true about Alec Baldwin and you can still live a half normal life.....that is not that bad. All big shots publicity.....

Alec Baldwin does have it but unfortunately doesn't speak about it often. He says he gets tired each afternoon. I don't know if he has chronic or found it right away. He had a home in the Hamptons for years. I was at his house when he was married to Kim Bassinger (it was for a fundraiser) it was beautiful. Now I view it all as a tick magnet. Lyme is how he met his curren wife. He had to stop drinking, eat a healthy diet, and started doing yoga. She was his private yoga instructor. I think about that too - that he works and seems to have a normal life. That said, he is extremely wealthy and I'm sure got the best/quickest care and probably doesn't have other stress. I like him but wish he would talk about lyme more.

I hope the gala money does some good and is put to proper eduction/research. Because the Hadid models have it (kids to the real housewife woman) all the models came out -which means all the young bankers came out (in hopes to meet the models) that's how NYC is and that's why the gala sold out. My view is if celebrities get people to talk about a disease more that's a good thing.

Agree. While I want to know where it's going, just getting the conversation of lyme mainstreamed is big. Lyme definitely takes a toll on the finances. It's not to a point where I view it as Monopoly money "Oh another visit to the crazy expensive LLMD for my son?" Sure, why not. That's how I now think of everything - well I can go the gala but that will be money I can put towards the LLMD. Plus it was too late for me. They definitely weren't marketing to the lyme crowd, otherwise it would be between the hours of 4:00-7:00pm with lots of vegetables, no booze, and the music would be very low. Gee, can't imagine why they didn't do that?

The truth is that LLMD recognized by healthcare system are only few of them. Rightfully as I understand their reasoning....wrongfully as I understand their other motives.
Natural medicine and erudite in the field are NOT recognized by mainstream medicine and this is a HUGE problem because we are not going to get the extra money to pay all the herbal and alternative treatments even if there is extensive research on in in other countries (China, India and Russia)....they do not care. Anything that minimize the importance of western medicine and pharmacy is about to be fought in every possible way.

Perhaps this money will go to found pharma research for lyme disease....that would be great.

So true. I had a friend who was a partner in the medical field. She tried to start an insurance company that would cater towards alternative medicine. Got backing from big people in the alternative world. They were shut up and shut down before they could get anywhere near the gate. Government is shutting down more and more testing: the very accurate and helpful IGG allergy testing is no longer done, tests from Neuroscience aren't allowed in NYC any longer, women can't get testosterone without major sign-offs each time, governments is trying to takeover vitamins and supplements. Don't get me started.

Really? Cuz governament is lobbied by private corporations.....who push for no law, little law or lots of law to block growth and progress depending on were the scale lean. An example is the GMO labeling war. Another example would be right wing parties pushing to de-regulate some industries....less laws more freedoms.....another example is left wing parties pushing to regulate to control other industries to stop others......
NOBODY is without sin here.

I have extreme socialist views, but I can guarantee you that philosophical views have nothing to do when money speaks especially in a country run by a dictatorship of bipartisanism. Both political parties for decades have pushed for GMO in the US and facilitated Monsanto.

The problem is not the government, private sector or whoever....the problem is letting money being the driving force of everything. That indeed is immoral and a sin in every possible way. Not needed at all.

BTW...video was good. I wish it would have carried a stronger message.

I thought her presentation was weak though. She never specified how she got better. She never said that her antibiotic treatment was a major (or not) component to her well being. She was very broad in her message. To someone who does not have lyme it makes it sound like people with lyme disease are more a mental case. She said she was smoking and drinking coke while on abx...then added she had to do some major lifestyle changes.
I wish the message would have been stronger on other fronts. Example, hitting people who do not have lyme that it can happen to them and if it does there is little hope.
She said her brain shut down ....and that long term lyme is basically with the individual forever....but as a viewer (and I have lyme disease) my perception of her when I watched it, was that she seem very well put together and not brain damaged.

Just bad behavior. She is light on the medical issues and yes, this comes across as more of a spiritual crisis than a medical one.

Along this line.
It is interesting that when I read articles on lyme, they always seem to be so oversimplified. it always seems outline the lyme patient as someone who was tremendously tired, went to doctors, finally found someone (A LLMD) to treat them and then got better.
The articles never seem to get across the torturous nature of this illness, the relapse rate or the continuous struggle to be well. Before my husband got lyme, he saw UNDER OUR SKIN and that seemed to get him...(in my mind, it didn't even touch how hard lyme is)

It Is really odd to me now that while I was in my nine year recovery (or so I thought), I would read these articles and when they talked about fatigue, I actually forgot about what the fatigue was like. I just thought "yeah,tired" , but did not remember bone crushing, want to cry, can't stand up for a whole minute, can't walk across a room fatigue.

I think its difficult to share a personal lyme story that is both in the physical sense and the life-transformation sense, together, and have it touch on the depth of it all.

I was surprised to read an Aly H interview where she stated she is currently at around 80% of normal and that she has people/healers to call, diets to embark on, etc.. when she needs help. Nothing too specific which is fine, but 80% is still pretty symptomatic, at least for me it is.

I once told my llmd that I aspire to get to the place with these infections that I treat for a few months, get to 95%, resume normal life, then treat again in a year when a relapse occurs. My llmd said most people don't have it this cut and dry and that they dont like to admit how sick they are.

I'm rambling now. As far as the gala; fantastic work by some incredible people that are putting themselves put there.

I agree. It's great that this much money was raised no matter where it goes. People are talking about it and a celebrity with millions of followers - the Hadid children. All three are models and two of the three have lyme, are also talking about it. From my current understanding, and this may be totally incorrect, those with chronic lyme, like Ally Hilfiger has, takes longer and may not heal 100%. Those who catch it earlier seem to heal faster and perhaps 100%.

We all want 100% but if I can have a full life with a mere pain here and there, I'll be a happy woman.
