In particular what are you worried about with Rifampin? The effects on the liver?

...the orange pee? LOL

I don't know. I simply have some strange feeling in my gut. You know, when you feel anxiety without a reason. Maybe because it is a drug for tuberculosis. I don't know.
the pee isn't my concern at the moment :)

If the Stephen Johnson syndrome scares you then check out the acute renal failure that rifampin can cause lol

Now - one thing to note: LLMD's are prescribing Rifampin and Biaxin together - so the good must outweigh the bad..or they wouldn't. They must be aware of it.

Dr Mozayeni uses this combo- he was one of the first guys to recognize that rifampin can cause/increase adrenal fatigue because of its impact on the C450 gene. So, he must see benefit in that combo for ppl who have strong enough adrenal function

I couldn't explain it so I googled it;


Cytochrome P450 enzymes are primarily found in liver cells but are also located in cells throughout the body. Within cells, cytochrome P450 enzymes are located in a structure involved in protein processing and transport (endoplasmic reticulum) and the energy-producing centers of cells (mitochondria)

Meds that are in the P450 group can enhance or inhibit some medications/herbs.

Yes, Dr. M 's protocol for bartonella is Biaxin plus Rifampin/Rifabutin.
