White Lines on Fingernails??

Many of you chimed in and helped me out when I wrote a thread on my oldest daughter a few weeks ago. For those of you who were following it, she is sick again.

The reason why I never continued the thread is because i want to get her in for some bloodwork, and to follow Traveler's advice and get all of the strept tests in that I possibly can to rule out PANDAS.

I have a feeling she has strept again bc i looked at her throat and it is killing her......

So, I will update you all when the results come in.

The reason why I delayed getting her tested was because she was under alot of pressure taking 2 different high school entrance exams over the past few weeks. She finished the second one on saturday, and now there is a huge amount of stress that has been lifted off her shoulders. And so now is the perfect time for me to act on all of this. Her acceptance into the high school of her choice is largely dependent on how she does on this exam, so I needed to leave her be until it was over.

Now, since I am taking her to the Dr this afternoon, I want to investigate her nails. I never noticed it before, but she says that she has had this happen on and off.

She has distinct white lines going horizontally across a couple of her fingernails. Her pinky looks like you took white out and drew a white line across it, the white is so well defined.

Anyone have any clue what this could be? A sign of Candida? A side effect from the herbs? A sign that she is deficient in something?? Maybe it means nothing at all?

I hope the dr has a clue, but just incase, I did some research but I am not finding anything definitive. I will call her llmd if I need to - depends on how this afternoon's visit goes.

I've learned to watch my nails to help me confirm some of the things I deal with - from small black lines in them, to pitting and the white lines that extend across the surface from the left to the right side of the nail.

If the white lines don't move as the nail grows out, it may mean that she's simply not getting enough protein in her diet, or her liver or kidneys may be struggling.

That is, unless she has closed them in some sort of door (cabinet door, car door) or some other sort of trauma.

Is she also taking milk thistle and/or other things to help her detox her liver? If so, it's more likely that it's just stressed and needs more support (or a gentle liver cleanse).

Herbs are more gentle on the organs, but they still can put too much stress on the liver, so from time to time we need to concentrate more on detoxing and protection of the liver. I use turmeric not only for inflammation, but for liver protection. There are several good products out there that can help - even just adding in something like Yogi brand detox tea can help.

I had those white lines also, and I ended up finding about a condition called "pyrolria" In fact my zinc level was low. I now take zinc piccolinate. Also with pyroluria b6 is low and you have to take the P-5-P form of it.

Poor dream recall is said to be a symptom of low b6

I don't know how specific of a DX pyroluria is, it seems to be an older concept, but I wouldn't be surprised if it has some underlying connections to a bigger picture (parasites?Lyme?Strep)

I also had some OCD tendency when younger and had strep very frequently. FYI I read Inositol can be helpful.
