Just wanted to share with the community that this is a fact for me. We all know stimulants suppress the immune system and aren't good for lymies. However, stimulants like amphetamines, coffee, or pretty much anything beyond a modest amount of green tea REALLY provoke the wicked yeast infection ("unidentified" species unresponsive to Diflucan and Vfend) I now have (for myriad reasons).

Was so fatigued from Lyme + coinfections I decided to try 30mg Vyvanse the last couple days even though I was 99% sure of the above. I'm 100% sure now with visible thrush on my tongue, dry eyes, runny nose, intense stomach pain, etc. My bad. At least I'm starting IV Micafungin on Thursday and hope I only have to put up with a couple more days of being 1/2 bedridden fatigued and 1/2 painkillers.

While it's true that stimulants have a suppressive nature on our immune function, it's usually diet or treatments that have more of a risk factor for yeast/fungal issues. Please do be sure that your diet and treatments for these infections aren't contributing to it as well and that you use probiotics daily to help avoid issues like these in the future as well.

Also, don't forget that detoxing will also help avoid herxing from treating yeast issues.

Absolutely. Scary thing is when your diet, exercise, detox, supplements, etc. are dialed in as much as possible and you wind up in the ER (NOT herxing but rather getting overtaken) and then it's really in the realm of a provider to diagnose and treat appropriately. Grateful I have that in my doc here in NJ.

Which always brings up a question for me, Traveler:

Why is there not an equivalent name for the reaction one gets in response to an agent that provokes symptoms of infection (e.g. coffee gives me tons of symptoms), as there is for the reaction (Jarisch–Herxheimer) one gets in response to an agent that kills infection?

I'd like to coin a word if one does not exist.

How about a "Prod"?
I was thinking of something that might be used to poke dormant or hiding microbes into wakeful activity, in order to expose itself.

OK, well my last name is very similar to "Herx." My Dad and I have jokingly coined the word "Hark" and been using it for months. I would be honored to have such a horrific medical phenomenon named after me, if you all would vote it into existence :)
