Lyme literate dr question

I have a question about Lyme literate doctors. Please understand I am not trying to cause controversy or to be ignorant. I am wondering if ALL Lyme literate doctors will tell you have have Lyme? I'm trying to understand it and from everything I read it sounds like most of them don't take insurance and will always treat people for Lyme using the lab where everyone tests positive.
I was diagnosed with Lyme and Babesia in 2014 and have been concerned about having Lyme again (or flare up). My ID tested me and said negative and I've thought of seeing a Lyme literate doctor for a second opinion.My concern is that these doctors possibly tell everyone they have Lyme and will treat them? I'm not sure what to think anymore and am hoping to get some insight from people on this board.

Hmmmm....really good questions. I'm not sure if there is a lab where everyone test positive. There are many who have symptoms and never test positive or it takes years before they do and are joyous when an LLMD or whatever doctor they can get treats them as though they had a positive test. The other side of the coin is that some docs won't treat at all unless you have a positive test so there are those that are left to self treat.

LLMD's are under so much scrutiny that I do not think they would gamble with people's lives and give them medications or herbs based on a gimmick.

Also understand that more times than not, the test will indicate negative but the person does have Lyme and/or co-infections.

My question to you is how do you feel? Do you feel as though you need treatment? You could try out some herbal protocols just to see how you feel.

What test did your ID perform?

Thank you so much! I would like to post my test results but not sure how to do it! 😳 Is there a way to screen shot them and post that? It's a lot to have to type them all!

Just wanted to agree with both Krimpet and Julymorning. Igenex is often accused of "everyone tests positive through there", but what is really going on is that they are one of only a few labs that actually perform the testing correctly.

Lyme is not like most other bacteria, as it divides much more slowly. Most bacteria divide in hours or days, but Borrelia (Lyme) o Lyme divides ever 3 - 5 weeks. So labs that return Lyme tests in less than 3 weeks haven't given the bacteria the time it needs to divide. Remember, bacteria divides in order to replicate.

Not only that, but most labs also don't use the proper testing medium either.

Interesting that people say that everyone tests positive with Igenex....

When we see more negatives...or Indeterminates on this forum - even with Igenex.


It's like winning the lottery when you test positive (because often we have symptoms of lyme - often debilitating for months,or even years with no explanation).

Dna connexions is a pcr test ..no doc needed ...if its there it will show ...ifbyou had it it doestnt go away ...just sayin

bluelyme - you're saying it will show every time?

I'm asking because usually pcr tests can have false negatives.
...because the dna of the bacteria isn't in every speck of urine.

...or is the DNA connexions test different?


I saw my new LLND yesterday...will post about it in another thread....but she talked to the owner of the lab...and asked about my positive bart test (blood pcr) - and discussed that I had already treated bart for awhile...and he confirmed - it's infection that needs to be treated.

How much is the DNA Connexions test? I couldn't find a price.

Is it safe to try the herbal Lyme remedies if you're not sure whether it's Lyme or not? I'm concerned that we'll never get a positive test result after many years of symptoms.

Often times, those that have been infected for a while can't get a positive test without "provoking" it - meaning you take something to help your body function come up to a level where it can recognize and attack the Lyme bacteria so that antibodies are being made, since these tests all rely on antibodies.

But, you should not be treating for 2 weeks (I believe) before the blood draw for the test.
