I saw a Gastroenterologist about an infection (Streptococcus) that's in my stomach. I have tried several other strategies to try and improve my CFS through a doctor (methylation, adrenal/hormone support etc.) but nothing was helping. She did not think I will tolerate antibiotics, but I don't see what other choice I have: I feel like whatever infection I have is killing me.
The GI is putting me on Flagyl, Ampicillin and Nystatin.
I have two questions:
1. Can herxes be dangerous? I do not expect the treatment will be pleasant -- I only think it runs for 1-2 weeks, but expect I may need to go longer if it helps. Given I am in a physically weakened state, am I putting myself at risk, especially by starting 2 abx. at once? The GI is interested in gut dysbiosis, but not CFS per se, so I don't think he is really taking into account people having difficulty with herxes.
2. Is there anything in my reaction to abx. that might also tell me if I have Lyme or one of the co-infections? My doctor thinks I have Bartonella and sent me to get tested yesterday. Just wondering if Lyme/co-infections produce specific symptoms during die-off that distinguish them from other infections.
I am hoping the abx. will at least give me a clue about the kind of treatment I may need.
