Let's put aside what we think we know for a moment. What if what people are referring to as Morgellons was not?
Most doctors have been predisposed to equate the trigger word 'Morgellons' to mean stop listening to the patient and prepare to label them delusional.
What if instead we were to express our inquiry into the condition as:
"Doctor please test me for Pseudomonas Putida infection in addition to what you think may be ailing me and throw in Lyme while your at it?"
Let us take a closer look at the clinical spectrum of Pseudomonas Putida infection. Believe or not this bacteria that has been found to be associated with Morgellons also appears to have been bio engineered to clean up oil spills.
The blog below details how meth users have a higher prevalence of this disease.
Yes, I am suggesting this, but dont misinterpret what I said as nobody is being called delusional.
Meth users have higher levels of toluene in their bodies.
Morgellons sufferers have high levels of toluene in their bodies for different reasons.
If you are a Meth user that develops Morgellons then you are swimming in toluene.

One of them is to turn toxic oils spills into biodegradable plastic. From the article Bacteria Eating Up Oil Spills and Producing Biodegradable Plastic. Here is a quote from the article:
“Kevin O’Connor and his colleagues produced a chemical cocktail made up of more than 80 percent styrene oil plus low volumes of other toxicants. Frankly, they haven’t expected that their test bacteria, P. putida CA-3, a special strain of a common soil microbe, would do too well.
However, the bacteria managed to turn 64 grams of undistilled styrene oil into nearly 3 grams of additional bacteria. In the process, the bacteria also produced 1.6 grams of a biodegradable plastic called polyhydroxyalkanoates, or PHA. The PHA is already used to make everything from forks to vitamins.
We cannot yet say that this bacterium literally changes an environmental problem into a beneficial substance because it also produces some amounts of other toxic byproducts such as toluene."
If the petroleum industry is responsible for introducing this synthetic bacteria into the wild to clean up oil spills and it turns out to be capable of infecting people then you can see why they would not want this condition acknowledged.
To think that this industry could not influence the medical industry is a bit naïve since it utilizes bacterial science to mitigate oil spill damage. The patent for this microbe is detailed here:

P. putida F1 (DSM 6899) is a benzene, toluene and ethylbenzene degrader; P. putida mt-2 (NCIMB10432) is a toluene and m- and p-xylene degrader; and P. putida CA-3 (NCIMB41162) is a styrene degrader. P. putida F1 (DSM 6899) and P. putida mt-2 (NCIMB10432) are deposited in
open collections and are publicly available. P. putida CA-3 (NCIMB41162) was deposited as a patent deposit at the NCIMB institution in Aberdeen, Scotland, on Feb. 21, 2003; this patent deposit will be maintained and replaced if necessary for thirty years or five years after the most recent request, and all restrictions on access to this patent deposit will be removed with the grant of a United States patent referencing this strain. If the disease were recognized and the modified bacteria were implicated then those who created it or those who deployed it to clean up oil spills would be responsible for the disease being introduced into humans resulting in hundreds of billions in damages.
