It's sooo hard to not overdo when you have a major clean up like that! We get mice nearly every year and I have to clean everything! I'm careful to wear gloves and to not inhale, but when I know it's going to be a real mess, I also put on a face mask to help reduce the amount of "stuff" I may be inhaling.

I have found that if I set traps in August, I catch more mice than if I wait until it gets cold and the mice are more established in the house. An old Vermonter told me that he likes to put traps around the outside of the house in August. Swears that keeps them from coming in. Don't know. Never done that.

This year, I forgot to set the traps early and all the traps that I put out seem to have the peanut butter licked clean right off of them. My mice apparently have studied up understanding the dynamics of the traps....Maybe my mice are as smart as the Bb?

If mice come in, do you suppose that they are potentially bringing in hitchhikers: ticks?

Unfortunately, it's a very real possibility, AK - not to mention just having them in the house creating the mess!

I have a indoor/outdoor cat, plus a rat terrier, a Jack Russel terrier and a Chihuahua (they are actually GREAT mouse hunters!) and I STILL get mice inside!

Thank you. Yes seems much worse than in years past. Hantavirus sounds like Babesia. Like we all need one more thing right?

I hope your husband's socks were saved - at this point I would buy new socks. They got into my bathroom towel cabinet too - had to wash all that as well. URghhh.

I'm a huge animal lover but at this point if deer and mice were removed from the planet I would be ok with that.

The deer are caught in the middle, just like humans, dogs, cats and others. The white footed mouse is where this all originates from. There are things we can do though!!

Thanks! Would have loved to know about this in July/August - although this is all so gross to me. I want to go back to my apartment and never leave even though I hate Manhattan now too. Antarctica here I come.

Do you use the tubes?

I have got to quit reading these links that could identify my rapidly progressive COPD like symptoms.

I have to wonder why my Internist never thought to have me tested for it.

And now if it is from all the mice out here in the country, it's too late to do anything about me. According to the cdc website.

"Are there any complications?
Previous observations of patients that develop HPS from New World Hantaviruses recover completely. No chronic infection has been detected in humans. Some patients have experienced longer than expected recovery times, but the virus has not been shown to leave lasting effects on the patient."

Is the above true for those that received immediate supportive treatment? What about those that didn't? Is it self limiting?
But, it says it has a 38% fatality rate.

Is this another cdc evasive answer?
