Candida Testing & Symptom Question

Is there an accurate test for Candida?

Also, can it cause phlegm in throat/cough that results in bad smelling breath? My son has been struggling with a mild cough for over a year now. He says he coughs because he feels mucus in his throat. In the Spring he also had patches on his scalp that cleared quickly (like in a few days) with Ketoconizole shampoo. His toenails are a bit weird too. He says his scalp is itchy.

Trying to figure out my next steps to help him get over this. He is IND for lyme. We have a decent integrative pediatric doc who will listen and work with me. I'm thinking nystatin powder or diflucan. Possibly both?

There is a test for Candida. There is a blood test for candida albicans and a stool test that indicates how much yeast. In my opinion the stool test is most accurate.

It sounds like your son may have Candida, he could have other fungal infections as well.

Bad breath is often a reflection of either gut or dental bacteria.

I do a dental rinse of peroxide/water/Oral Defense by Supreme Nutrition.

Would he be willing to cut out dairy? That can help with mucous/phlegm.

Good ideas. He's cut down on dairy but not completely.

He says the smell is coming from the phlegm - like he can taste it.

I think I'll see about the yeast ease. How often do your boys take it?
