Awesome - thanks for this. I apologize in advance if you have answered this already in another thread, but how much of the tea and how often? Thanks!
Credit Traveler for this, I copied it and saved it for myself:
"I get quite a few questions about
this, so I thought I would just start a new thread. I used Houttuynia as the only treatment for my Bartonella infection and it was added in after being on my Lyme 'Chronic Tonic' herbs for 3 months.
I used only the cut leaf herb - not the powder and it makes a difference as the concentration of different parts of the herb (above ground parts, or roots) will produce different effects.
I used only 1 1/2 grams of Houttuynia to 3 cups of water for the first 3 weeks. This is 1/2 strength though. You will need to work up to 3 grams of Houttuynia to 3 cups of water, but take your time - it makes many of us herx like crazy!! And don't forget to detox, detox, detox!!!
To brew this tea - which has quite a pleasant taste actually & can be sweetened slightly - take the Houttuynia (1 1/2 grams or less to start) and add it to 3 cups of hot water - do NOT boil the herb! This changes the properties of the tea. Steep (allow to sit) for 10 minutes only. If you forget and it steeps longer than 12 - 14 minutes, throw it out. It will be much too strong and could cause a lot of problems (like more herxing!) if you try to use it. Be sure to strain the used herb from the liquid.
Cool tea. The tea can be refrigerated.
Drink 1 cup of tea 3 times a day.
As the herx subsides, increase your dose of Houttuynia in very small amounts, wait until the herx subsides and increase again - until you reach 3 grams of Houttuynia to 3 cups of hot water.
Continue to drink 1 cup of this medicinal tea 3 times a day until all symptoms resolve. This took 9 months for me, but it was well worth it!
As usual, if you have any questions, I will do my best to help you find answers to any questions you may have, although I only know so much. My Practitioner was the one who came up with this treatment and she's the one that knows Traditional Chinese Medicine, not me."
