Sexual Transmissiom of Lyme and Co Infections

There has been a lot of a clinical evidence of this, as well as lab research showing spirochete in bodily fluid.

Does anyone know, specifically, if the spirochete travels in the sperm, or simply in the seminal fluid? If the latter, IVF might be a way for a Lyme couple who practices safe sex to better guarantee not transmitting this to children because they wash away the fluid and just use the sperm itself.

Ideas or research links welcome. Asking for, you know, a friend.

Egg, sperm, someone else's Lyme free body.

I don't believe the spirochete lives in the sperm.

But; I might just go to a fertility doctor and find out!

Ugh. Really a bummer.

The lyme spirochete has been found alive in sperm, vaginal fluids, tears, breast milk. There is NOT a definitive scientific study that says YES it is sexually transmitted. There is scientific research with rats/hamsters that implies no (but humans aren't rats) and one study that implies it can be with strong evidence that more research is needed. There is much anecdotal evidence by Dr.'s that specialize in treating lyme that it can be sexually transmitted, can be given in the womb to a child by a mother with lyme.

To assume that it can't be transmitted sexually because the scientific study has not yet been done to prove this is STUPID!

It is just a matter of time.

The CDC has pointed out that the lyme spirochete is found in blood and advises people with lyme to NOT give blood.

Lyme is a spirochete as syphillis is a spirochete. Syphillis is sexually transmitted.

A study would include:

Willing males with lyme having unprotected sex with willing females without lyme - see what happens.
Willing females with lyme having unprotected sex with willing males without lyme - see what happens.

I don't know of anyone who would be willing to be infected with the lyme spirochete as a male or female and take on the infection in a controlled environment, and a clean/sterile/unaffected female taking on being a sex partner.

Could be done with some eager young lads/lasses without religious/cultural filers that would paint this taboo.

You realize, that even if you grew the baby in a test tube, it still could conceivably be born infected?

That is definitely not worth the risk.

If you knew for a fact you hadn't already passed it on to your wife, and you used donor sperm (and pray they aren't infected with anything), that could be a possibility. However, multifacet left out saliva, and I have to assume you've at least kissed her? Swapped spit in a drink or food?

K07 - yup, very true. Also, I am certain it probably changes our DNA. I bet, if ancestors had lyme, it shifts things and may even make us seem more tasty - we have known this species line as a good host, we gave it alzheimers, parkinson's disease, caused death even - good home for me as an ancient bacterial form.

Are you married and trying to conceive? This is so hard for those starting out. I'm sorry you have to even be worrying about this.

My son hasn't even started dating and now has to worry about all of this. As if being young doesn't have enough drama.

In the future there will be dating sites for people with Lyme "If you run out of energy by 9:00pm, can't drink, and like funny movies and taking risks with our future generation, text me."

Our LLMD thinks it is very possible but not as common as we think. Who knows.

There's a Dr J that works specifically on pregnancy and has the other on antibiotics during pregnancy to keep load low.
