Low CD-57 = chronic?

I read somewhere that a low CD-57 indicates chronic Lyme. Mine was 20. I am wondering if this score can indicate how long I've had Lyme? If I only had it for a few months, is that score likely? Or is it more likely that I've had it for years? Is there any way to tell? I haven't found a tick on me for many, many years, but all my symptoms are recent (they all started about 2 months before I took the CD-57), so I am trying to discover how long this has been in my body...

it depends who u are asking. some LLMDs think it is relevant, some use it as a guide to see it changing with treatment, but will not use it to judge much about the person's immune status.

my LLMD does take it into account, and yes 20 is low ... but with treatment it will spike.


nevertheless some people are left with a low CD after treatment, but they continue feeling well and symptom free, so it's really not such a good of a tool as initially thought....

A low CD57 suggests low immunity, when combined with having Lyme, it does suggest that the infection(s) are chronic, but it's not a direct indicator of chronic Lyme. No one knows what all comes into play with the CD 57 - some very debilitated Lyme patients have a high CD57, while some Lyme patients with very few symptoms can have a very low CD 57. So, no matter what you may have heard or read, if they are saying that a low CD57 means the person has chronic Lyme - they don't have all the information.

If you have a low CD 57 though, it can often be tracked to help note health improvements as you treat these infections.

CD57 is a common question here.

Prob is, many NON-LYME issues can effect it. All the various herpies related virusis (4-6 of them?). Aids/HIV, possibly cancer and even basic autoimmune conditions, like Hashimoto.

Does it mean you have lyme?- no it doesnt.

If it changes with lyme treatment, you can then track it for "fun" - since it has no proven benefits. Mine never changed at all.

As expensive entertainment, I might check it out again, since it was almost two years since I did CD57 last.

I think it's reassurance that something is going on. So, in that respect it is helpful. Mine was 40 in summer before diagnosed and 40 again 2 months later when diagnosed. So mine didn't bounce around like some docs says it does. I did about 10 wks of abx and some LDI and 3 months later it was up to 59. I haven't tested since then since current doctor doesn't feel it has much worth.

Thanks all, although now I'm not sure if I'm more or less confused haha! But at least this gives me a more balanced picture than some of the articles I found online.

Personally, I find testing the CD57 AND c4a to be the most helpful.

A low CD-57 can indicate chronic lyme. Nothing tells you for how long though. If you find something that does, please let me know. I'd love to have this information!

Our CD-57 bounces up and down like a bouncy ball, but it bounces around on the low side. It has only been helpful for us to track in the long term. I have found the c4a to provide even more information for us on our progress.
For CD-57, all of ours have mostly been low.
For the C4As, all of ours have varied. Some started out high, some started our low, some started low - went high - came back down, etc.

Doesn't high c4a (with normal c3a) often indicate mold illness?

My c4a sky-rocketed to 59,000 at the same time I had positive Candida antibodies.

Candida-fungas-mold= all similar.

Per the mold guru, Dr Shoemaker: moldies have high c4a, with normal c3a

Lymies:
-with mostly nuero, have both high
-with primarily skeletal issues, have high c4a with normal c3a

My conclusion is cd57 can be effected by to many other things (even autoimmune hashimoto, so I will forever be low(?)).

C4a is more spot on- only a few things have direct effect.
