Rifabutin/mino daily dosing change thoughts?

My LLMD has me on rifabutin/minocycline/bactrim 1x AM, 1x PM 4 consecutive days a week, nothing the other days (except Plaquenil daily). I'm a strong believer in getting the peak abx levels as high as possible so was thinking of altering the protocol to 2 rifabutin/2 minocycline 1x AM and 2 bactrim 1x PM. Thoughts?

When I started treating bartonella he started me on 2 rifampin and 2 cipro 1x day in AM so thinking this isn't much different. Thanks.

Rikky, I have very little knowledge of antibiotic usage. Someone else will come along and this will bump you to the top for visibility.

I didn't have an LLMD, so I'm not familiar with those particular abx, sorry.

Rikky - maybe edit your title - to include Rifabutin/mino in it...once daily dosing.

..or something like that - so members can see at a glance ...


I am taking my Rifampin all at once in the a.m....but the mino I am spacing out to twice daily.
This was my LLND's instructions.

I haven't heard of minocycline being dosed all at once...but maybe it can be..

I can tell you there is a difference. Twice daily Riffy - I would have clear pee in between the morning and evening dose. It's now orange all day and evening from the once daily dosing.

Thanks Girlie wondering if you can take the same approach with Rifabutin as Rifampin. I would think so but wanted opinions as well as whether one can do 2 Bactrim at same time. Never heard of this but curious. Thx.

Rikky - I am emailing someone on Rifabutin...I will go through my emails in a bit and see if he is on once daily or splitting into two doses (if it was mentioned in the email)

Rikky - i just went through my emails and the person seeing Dr. M. is taking the Rifabutin twice daily.

Mino should be definitely taken twice a day, because its half-life is 12-14 hours, and you want it to work 24hours.
I don't know about Rifabutin.

Rifampin has a half life that is less than mino - 3-4 hours and many LLMD's prescribe it once daily.

My LLND said for me to switch to once daily to get a higher 'spike' in the blood.

I'm willing to try it.

Imo ,would spike the others ok but the bactrim maybe leave alone ..
i found out today that dr h is pulsing riffy zith mino on mwf with 1200mg and then 600mg

The thing with Mino is that it is not bactericidal, it is bacteriostatic. It means that it cannot kill the bacteria directly, like some other abx, it can just stop bacteria from reproducing. That is the reason why it is good to have it in blood all the time.

However, there are many different protocols and people react differently to treatment. Lyme is so individual.
