Since our twitching is often caused by our infections, a lowering of immune function ala reductions in diet quality could definitely cause the symptom to worsen.
The Buhner-recommended herbalist I consult suggested that I take higher doses of Dan Shen (Red Sage/Salvia Miltiorrhiza) as frequently as every hour to help tame neuro symptoms in general.
Among its many, many other benefits, Dan Shen modulates the cytokines that affect our nerves.
Cytokines are the things our immune system produces in response to infection. Some types of cytokines are healing - others promote inflammation which is the cause of our symptoms.
By taking things that modulate cytokines, the immune system then produces more healing cytokines and fewer inflammatory ones.
Magnesium is another good choice for muscle twitches (taking it at bedtime really helps me fall asleep). However, it wasn't enough to tame mine. Maybe I need higher Mg doses but, I take thyroid meds at 3 different times per day and Mg interferes with thyroid meds. Thus, I have limitations as to when I can take Mg.
