Yes, once he starts doing all that he really, honestly needs to, at least some of these issues will slow or mellow some. I have had to learn what my 'minimums' were in order to get some sleep too - we all have to learn that, once sleeping becomes an issue.
There are many different things that may be of help, so keep rotating through them until you find what works best for him, as everyone has slightly different brain chemical levels and will need different things to help them sleep. Maybe people will list what they use so you can see the different types of things that can be helpful.
I use melatonin, valerian, tryptophan, magnesium, Celestial Seasonings 'Sleepy time' tea - as well as having good 'sleep hygiene' (

naps, unless they actually are interfering with sleeping well at night.)
