My son didnt get dx until mid July and started tx beg Aug. He has been in tx now and has missed the beg of grade 10. He herxes to new meds and it has been tough.
I think it is the lyme and the herxes that make you feel like a zombie. He still has dark circles under his eyes but has more energy.
I try not to stress him out about missed school. He could do summer school but last summer he went outside 3 times!! It was awful. And he couldnt walk d/t joint pain. Soo if he wants to have some fun this summer I don't think I would have the heart. If he has to take some courses from the lower grade next year I guess it's ok. I think we have to let go of the picture of the life we wanted to have and live the life we have.
I dont know about your son but this disease has ripped away any confidence from my son so maybe taking a course with a younger grade isnt soo bad.
Oh I was going to suggest the chronic tonic by misty meadows. Is that where trav got her recipe from? I think they have it ready made. What if you had like one drop in a big mug and sipped it all day? It has lots of antibacterial stuff. Well rounded.
Huddie it's like a plane-you have to put your oxygen mask on first if you are going to help the others. Big hug

^ This. I totally agree. But boy, it's hard. It's so difficult to watch your child go from a kid who is extremely active in LOTS of activities/club/groups... to a kid non-functioning at home and incapable of doing practically anything. That's heartbreaking to see. And it's not like it's a short time period for many of us... it's not being ill for a few days or few weeks... for my kids, it's years of un-wellness and healing. That is a very LONG duration for children (and even for any of us adults too!).
I am so sorry about
your son. Sadly, I have a lot of experience with medical leave and school. I could write a book on it. Some good - some VERY bad experiences. Does your son have a homebond tutor? On an IEP?
My Kid#2 is on medical leave from school the past year. He has only attended one month of school (full-time) over the past year. He has been on partial days for the past three months. I truly can't believe it's been this bad for a year. He has definitely improved from a year ago, but he's not well and not able to go to school full time.
As for kids... I'm a believer in letting them do activities as they feel well enough. If my son is well enough to do activity XYZ, I let him. If he's not well, he skips it. Some activities are accommodating, whereas others are not. But we try to make the best of it. He has given up nearly all activities a year ago, and he's starting to do more now - occasionally. Man, it's tough.
