Mepron and Bactrim DS ???? Good 1st step ABX ???

Hey Everyone,
I've been diagnosed with Lyme for 15 months ( went almost a year without knowing what I had ). I've been on an herbal protocol for 14 months and did get a lot better. Now fallen way back and having a tea hard time with it. Told my Doc maybe we should try AbX's and he wanted to start me off with Mepron and Bactrim DS??? Input please?

That is a good combo...but I suggest you start with one first...maybe the Bactrim.

For a week or two...then add in the Mepron.


Make sure you have good detoxing habits, too.

Mepron is usually paired with a macrolide class ABX (Zith, Biaxin, etc) to reduce risk of developing resistance. Bactrim DS is good also. At one point I was on Mepron double dose, Zith and Bactrim DS, while on IV Rocephin and pulsing TindaMax. But of course I had to work up to handle that combo.

Expect to be on a Mepron combo for 4 months minimum, and most of us here have taken it much longer. My first time on Mepron weeks 4 thru 9 were the pits, before things started to turn around.

Agree with Girlie on Bactrim first.

Yes Bactrim first.
If you do Mepron first alone you risk resistance.

Think about adding in Artemisinin or Artesunate too, it's over the counter but can be very strong for Babesia.

agree with everyone love bactrim its done well for one of my major most debilitating symptoms. and yes its ok to pair with an anti-malarial just because most seem to go with the tried and true zithromax doesn't mean you need to. zithro never did much for me personally.

Remember to take the mepron with fat for better absorption.
