Could this be a Bartonella Herx?

Hi everybody,

I added Hawthorn and more recently Houttuynia tincture to my Protocol. I have started slow. I am at the full dose of Hawthorn because I believe it is more of a support herb but the Hout - I'm only at 6 drops a day now.

My new symptoms include a stabbing pain behind my eye, feelings of rage and anger! And just more joint pains, some in my shins too. Are these symptoms indicative of bartonella? I have never had the eye pain before.

Yup - sure sounds like it could be a herx. I had eye pain that didn't start to clear up until I started to target bart with hottuynia. The feelings of rage and anger, I would associate that with both lyme and bart. Good! You're hitting something up! 6 drops a day sounds good in way of working up slow and easy. I'd suggest upping your detox to counter the herxing.

Rage and anger are Bart symptoms. Increase detox - lemon water, ACV, epsom salt bath, etc

That is good to know. Rage and anger are something that forced me to stop taking Flagyl.

I had no idea how to handle it, and I had deliberately gotten all those detox methods including char tabs in place and using before and during the time I took it. It just continued to get worse so I shelved the Flagyl indefinitely.

Now I'm trying to see the correlation between rage symptoms and taking Flagyl and Bart herxing so I know what to watch out for when I tackle bart. I had no idea Flagyl would do anything to Bart.

Thank you both! I have not been tested for Bart but I decided to treat for it, (I will probably do the same for babesia) because I have my suspicions. I hope Hottuynia will get rid of it...from what I hear it is quite powerful.

The rage and anger is strange isn't it?

I had a bit of a fiery temper before lyme but very rarely. Now I get feelings of being so angry I just want to smash something, for no reason. Then I'll be happy, then crying the next hour. It is not my personality. sad

It was scary for me.

Makes me wonder if some domestic violence or even random types are ever related to Bart infected people herxing from something. Because in my case it only rose to that level when I was on the Flagyl abx. Calmed right down when I stopped the pills, started in again when I went back to them 3 weeks later, and then stopped immediately after I quit the pills less than a week after restarting.

Has your patience worn very thin? Mine has, but I was attributing it to getting old. haha.


Oh....the happy/crying yo yo is a noticeable phenomena of mine for quite some time. People will comment to me on it. 33 some years of these infections I don't know what is the real me anymore.

Flagyl has a lot of side effects, maybe your anger was actually provoked by Flagyl and not a herx.
I used Tini, which is similar, and it damaged my nerves. These two are very powerful abx, but have a lot of side effects.

That's exactly what I was convinced of when it happened.
