Lyme alone can do this. Not to say that Bart can't, or any of the other co-infections, but Borrelia are quite capable of achieving this by itself. It uses every avenue that looks inviting inside of our bodies. It's opportunistic that way, and migrates at will to more accommodating conditions inside of us, until it is able to actually control our conditions, such as a cooler body temp more suitable to it's functioning.
We also have what's called "transferred" pain, which you may have heard of with pain from other issues.
The sharp pain is a nerve reaction. What's going on to create it varies. Some articles of evidence suggest that the bacteria damage the protective sheaths over nerve bundles, and endings, exposing them suddenly.
I like the use of Japanese Knotweed that can help reduce these incidents, and there are other herbs that help calm inflammation and work with our body to do repairs on damage on a cellular level. It's a slow process though, and takes a varied amount of time to see results.
