Lighlife - symptoms, leftover damage, and toxicity must all be distinguished. As girlie said, my shoulder pain was a result of nerve damage that was caused by lyme. When i finished treatment, it was the only "symptom" I had left. And if it was still lyme, it would not have eventually gone away.
Think of it this way - if someone injures their knee for example, and needs knee surgery. Many times, once the surgery is performed, no matter what, the knee is never the same. On rainy days and such, it may hurt. That is bc of the inflammation. So with lyme, it damaged my shoulder - although I no longer have lyme, it doesn't mean my shoulder will never hurt again. While I was sick, It messed up the nerves in my shoulder and caused a pinched nerve down my arm causing my fingers to hurt. My Dr specifically said that if I go off the lyme diet, I may feel it - well, I did this past winter and the winter prior. Except this time it was not as bad. Eating dairy and sugar re-inflammed my shoulder. When I was sick with lyme, it hurt almost all of the time. Now it hurts maybe like I said at a 30% lesser degree, and only when I sleep the wrong way or put my pocketbook to hang from it. I am confident it will be gone in the next few weeks as I continue to clean up my diet (and it was BAD - I was having surgary foods EVERY DAY)
Another clue - I got sick right after christmas. full blown sinus like infection - my body hurt, etc. Took vitamin c, elderberry syrup, lots of home remedies, and I beat it in a week. If I still had lyme, I would not have beat it, nor would I have gotten sick like that in the first place (bc those who have lyme have weakened immune systems so they don't get regular sick). my husband got sick the same day as me (i know weird), and he ended up with bronchitis and had to take antibiotics. I didn't need antibiotics. Haven't taken them in almost a year since I got sick last March.
Also, When i was nearing the end of my treatment, I couldn't handle the herbs anymore. I was taking a high dose of AL complex and ABart all throughout my treatment, and when it came closer to the end, I could barely handle 5 drops of either of them - bc i would get severe headaches and heart palpitations. That was not a herx, it was a sign that I didn't need them anymore. My body was saying "no" - but many times people read these reactions the wrong way, or they are not sure how to read them.
If had had continued to take antibiotics when I really didn't need to, and if i continued to take the herbs when they were causing those "symptoms" I would have created a situation of toxicity, and more symptoms probably would have arose. This is where it gets tricky, bc some people may be in the same boat as me and not even know it, and yet are still treating.
lastly, i had a severe case of candida following the 8 months of antibiotics I took, and candida symptoms are very similar to lyme - that is a whole other story, and i can go on and on, but i will stop here LOL
