Why is Mepron $453??? And of course insurance won't cover it. Have to call again to fight it.

On another note, got two weeks of diflucan and hope I see some improvements.

I don't know why it's so much more than the other pharma's.

I think it's even a couple hundred more here in Canada. And the one bottle will last - what- about 3 weeks?

Isn't malarone the "alternative"???? I may be waaaay off base on this, so wait for someone knowledgeable to answer before trying it!!!

malarone is not generic Mepron.

It's a tablet that combines atovaquone with proguanil (I may have spelled that wrong)

The dose of atovaquone is lower than when you take the Mepron.

Some say it's not as effective.

Oh, okay! See? This is why I generally stay out of pharma abx conversations! LOL! I can't keep them all straight - it's hard enough for the herbs!! LOL!

Heh.. this is how i feel. Reading the pharma posts got my head spinning like turn artemesia + sida acuta + alchornea ~ $50? Let's go with that... And if that doesn't work I'll find the plant that does on a matter of principle lol! No one deserves to be paying that nonsense

The funny thing, Psilo - we can understand the herbal aspect of treatment but not the pharma - so we are learning more in order to understand that, because we didn't grow up using these plants - at least I didn't! LOL! That's why I think it's funny that I can't seem to grasp the abx! I've used them for much of my life, even though they only helped moderately (of course, they were never treating the actual cause of my health issues, only secondary infections and such).

Sooo odd how the brain works!! Throw in these infections and it gets even more - ehem, shall we say - 'interesting'?? LOL!!

LG how did u do on the Malarone? We seem to have the same symptoms. I did NOT do well, had to stop with some scary symptoms. Been on Coatem 3 Rounds now with no relief. 3 days worth of meds for $150. Hoping someone else has found a Baesia protocol that will work.

So you were on Malarone, pjmrees?

Have you thought about trying the mepron (or generic atovaquone)?


What happened when you were on it?...what were your scary symptoms ...if you don't mind sharing?

I can't afford Mepron, insurance won't even pay for azithromiacin. And $1600 is insane for the Mepron. I was having psychotic moods, very angry and bad thoughts. I could not function or leave the house.

Did you price out the generic Atovaquone?

It's a lot cheaper.



Those are scary symptoms.

Did you try Artemisinin?

There's also Clindamycin - I think it's paired with Quinine - but not easy to tolerate.
