Diffuse unilateral subacute neuroretinitis (DUSN) is a progressive parasitic disease affecting the outer retina and retinal pigment epithelium (RPE). This syndrome is primarily unilateral, although bilateral cases have occurred. DUSN has been reported to develop in association with other infectious processes such as catscratch disease caused by Bartonella henselae and herpes simplex virus type 2 infection . The ocular findings of DUSN include visual loss, vitreous cells, optic disc inflammation and leakage, and transient recurrent crops of gray-white outer retinal lesions. [4, 5, 6]

Stationary or migrating nematodes have been identified deep in the retina or in the sub retinal space. Later in the course of the disease, slowly progressive RPE changes and optic atrophy may be observed, as well as narrowing of the retinal vessels.

Now for some Q and A and to pick your brains like a zombie! Chime in on anything that brings a thought to mind and ignore what doesn't.

Has there been a nematode directly connected to Bartonella that anyone knows about?

Although this article in the link alludes to it, it is rather vague still.

A lot of us complain of vision problems....

Now I'm Changing the topic for some What Would You Do if you were me questions.

I am on my 2nd day of Mebendazole 100 bid. Unless given good reason to do otherwise I am planning to complete somewhere between 5 and 14 days.

Day 1 was the most uncomfortable but I am tolerating it well today.

It dislodged some unusual large whitish mass that I couldn't tell what it was but it didn't look like anything I intentionally ate.

It felt good to see it go.

I feel as if I am making some progress but there is still pain in the lungs which I would like to treat. It has been going on for a few months now.

If I involved a doctor what would be a screen that they could and should accommodate? Would you start with a CT scan of the chest or simple XRay?

I think whatever I am dealing with can be beat by continuing to go after the nematodes and bacteria.

This is day 14 of this current cycle of Doxy 100mg bid. I don't feel like the Doxy is as effective at cleaning me up as it did in the past which is why I am reluctant towards increasing the Doxy. Eyes are very slightly irritated with slight increasing discharge in the morning.

All I have else on hand is a whole lot of Amoxicillin, Albendazole, and Diethylcarbamazine.

I am waiting on the Augmentin and Tinidazole to arrive as I plan to do the Lyme treatment involving high doses of oral Amox with the Augmentin and slowly ramp in the Tini.

Would it hurt my chances if I stopped the Doxy and started the Amox early before the Augmentin arrives?

I could start with 500mg bid, increase it slowly by adding 500mg daily or every other day working up to the target of 6000mg for when the Augmentin and Tini arrive in 2-3 weeks?

Will any of this address the Bart or should I add another abx? If yes, which would be the best complement to what I will be taking?

I will be honest. Regardless of what I think I saw, mites just don't make sense at this point. They would have infected my wife if there were mites running around. That is how mites do things.

I think that Traveler is correct and that the mad itch associated with Morgellons is Bartonella related.

The invisible crawling bugs feeling has got to be Bart otherwise there would be some logical pattern to it.

Ive completed six cycles of Ivermectin over the last few months and any mites should have been starved during this period. I did 3 days Pyrantel a week ago to rule out hookworm and I am going to tack on one more single dose.

I am currently on 400 mg Fluconazole, 100mg Doxy bid, 100mg bid Mebendazole and the usual Xanax. I plan to take Ivermectin if I get the crawls again but I am concerned with the lungs.

They will feel ok to slight discomfort and then a bit more painful but usually better in the morning and this goes on and on. I wouldn't be surprised if P. Acnes has gotten into my lungs but Doxy should be effective against this.

There is slight pain and dense feeling and today it travelled from the left lung to the right.

I am thinking out loud and I would appreciate any thoughts that come to mind on any of this? Don't be shy because I am responsible for what ever I decide to do.

I know I threw a lot out there so don't feel like you have to touch on everything. Just what comes to mind.

I don't think it will hurt to start on amoxicillin - ramping to the 6,000 mg daily - FYI - that is the highest amount I have seen recommended for Lyme treatment.
Take it in three divided daily doses.

You mentioned adding augmentin to the Amoxy? Why ? Augmentin is Amoxy combined with clavunalate(sp?) - is it because the augmentin isn't a high enough dose?
Just make sure you don't exceed the max Amoxy when taking both.

That and Tinidazole isn't good for bartonella.

Rifampin is - but I have not seen it paired with Amoxy or Tini for Bart.
More commonly, it is paired with biaxin, zith, minocycline, doxy,

Sometimes Rifampin is combined with Bactrim, but I think that might be a tougher one to tolerate.

Bartonella is a gram negative ...the amox wont touch it the clav in augmentin might ..idk ..the tini may also it will slow down flagella and bart has many tails ...i would get a xray to see if there are nodes asscociated with lungworm they may tell you sarcoidosis. ...ct is 200x as much radiation as xray so yiur call much clearer pic but if they go that route they almost aways want you to inject the contrast dye which some have no prob with ..but my thyroid did not want any radioactive iodine ..so i passed .

Morgellons is thought to have spirochetael ,bartonella and mycoplasma dna that has mutated into a new organism ..the skin filaments are not necessarily alive as much as a immune response ...dr k says bigest to smallest and bart is a proteobacterium so yiu are doing good going after helminith first ..order rifampin and some zith/mino so it get there by the time ...sida seems easy to take for me .houttynia tinture didnt do much and all pale in comparison to the venom of the mighty lil honey bee ...(i dont think you are allergic )but you maybe wanna get a epi pen even with all the meds you are self treating with .

Thanks for the insights and encouragement. I dont think I am deathly allergic but the skin turned bright red wherever I applied the Venex venom cream. I assume this is an allergy?

and Augmentin is not a high enough dose so I will make up the remainder in Amoxy being sure not to exceed 6000mg. I figured if I make the adjustment and add Tini I have a Lyme treatment also.

A friend with similar if not the same troubles, highly recommended Biaxin 500mg bid for the lung issue so I am planning to start this asap and possibly continue use in addition to the aforementioned protocol.

If the lungs do not respond to this I am going to see a doctor.

That protocol most likely won't get the bart though....may knock it back a bit only,.

If the lung issues are due to these infections...then don't be surprised if you don't get relief right away.

...and if they're babesia based...this protocol won't do it.

I probably missed someone else saying this, even you Chickenarise, but you do know that Amoxicillin. and Augmentin are the same thing. Amox is the generic. I have a prescription of it still sitting right here.

My Amoxicillin shows to be with Clavulanate Potassium 875 mg of Amox/125 mg of the other. The label says "Substitute for Augmentin 875/125" Same thing So yeah, I wouldn't be taking both unless the mg content is not high enough by itself.

Yes - he knows...he isn't getting enough amox in the combo...so is adding to it.

Got it. Thanks guys! Looks like some fascinating info. You know what is insane is that whatever is affecting me feels like a mite or mites but it cant be.
A mite is going to do its mite cycle thing regardless of what I do. I felt the ' crawls ' after nibbling on something sweet. Its nutty how this can present like a mite in so many ways, but it is more likely fungal or bacterial at least in my case. The thing about it is, if you spend enough time in a fungal state you will attract insects. They will bite you and you increase the chance of being infected with an actual nematode. At this point with all the antihelmintics I have done, and the way this responds to certain food only I have to rule out the mite. I am glad I have my wits about me to logically deduce. The crawls in my case can be stopped cold with a dose of Ivermectin or fluconazole. They can be kept at bay by not consuming sugary foods or breads. This will be paramount to keeping this condition from progressing. Just as an aside, my lungs are hurting more constantly sice i stopped the direct ozone IV. I've switched from Doxy to Amoxy as of yesterday. I am looking into getting Biaxin which a friend suggested for the lung issues. Thanks to everyone who is helping me to try to figure this out!!! (typing on my phone so I apologize for the misspells)
