Alka Seltzer Gold and Ceftin

So I start my abx next week. LLMD wants me to do a parasite test first (abx can mess up results) and then start. Total of 3 abx, which I will ease into one at a time.

The first one is Ceftin. In the paperwork, it says to avoid antacids while taking it. But my LLMD recommends Alka Seltzer Gold. Can I still take the Alka Seltzer Gold while taking Ceftin?

That's not something I was aware with Ceftin.

I plugged the ingredients into a Drug interaction site and nothing came up.


i'm thinking because most antacids contain Calcium...but the Alka Seltzer gold doesn't?

I put Ceftin with Calcium in the drug interaction..and it was Moderate - the Calcium can decrease effects of Ceftin.

Thanks, Girlie. I'll email him tomorrow to make sure. But I just bought a bunch of AS Gold. He seems to know his stuff, so I don't think he'd recommend it if they would interact.

I took ASG with my Ceftin...I'm still here.

But, it is looking like it's okay together.

and the other thing is you can always separate them by a couple of hours...just don't take them 'together'.

mm, do be aware that if you have hypertension or are on meds for it, you should not take the A. Gold.
