Gentamicin

So my father in law was put in the hospital for a MRSA infection which got into his blood and caused Sepsis. They put him on a 3 abx IV combo with the top one being gentamicin. Pretty powerful stuff from what the folks at the hospital were telling me and sure enough it knocked out the infection.

Is this something that's used in general practice today or do you have to have a serious infection (yeah there's a laugh) in order to get it?

It is the only thing bactricidal for bart ...it can reck hearing and kidneys ..a buddy on lymenet could only hang with 5 days of iv ...

i havent found a doc willing to give it to me yet..got 1 more to try but im scared of levaquin do i really wanna try the gent?

same here... lasted only 19 days on Levaquin before an Achilles tendon flared up. but a year later I tried Cipro and went long term with no issues.

cipro dosage was 250mg twice a day

i don't think any llmd is going to give you gentamicin however i believe you can get streptomycin. Streptomycin and Doxy are considered THE combo for brucella (which is a cousin of bartonella).

So I'll either push for Cipro and whatever else or the Streptomycin/Doxy combo. Then again they may have completely different ideas on what direction to go in so we'll see.
